It’s only six days until Jose Mourinho names his Tottenham team to face Manchester United. Remember that excitement and apprehension ahead of team news, and then the frustration after it? We’re about to get it all back.
One of the big questions ahead of the grand return is whether Tanguy Ndombele has done enough impressing in lockdown to earn himself a place in Mourinho’s starting XI. The 23-year-old midfielder only started three of Spurs’ 11 previous games and was subbed on each one of those occasions.
Dele Alli’s ban does leave room for a more attack-minded midfielder – not that I would categorise Ndombele as such but he is at the very least a luxury at the moment considering the uncertainty over his physical capabilities – and another thing that could work in the Frenchman’s favour is set pieces.
Rob Guesty of Football London reports that Ndombele was on corner-taking duty for yesterday’s friendly against Norwich. We need to find a new corner taker after selling Christian ‘first man’ Eriksen, and Jose is too detail oriented to throw away an opportunity for Spurs to get some practice in.
Giovani Lo Celso swinging them in from one side, and Ndombele the other?
