27-Year-Old Outlines Plans To Leave Spurs… But Only After Becoming “A Champion”

By Joe Fish -

“I really want to be a champion and mark my name in the history of the club,” Lucas Moura said in an interview with Globo Esporte on Friday.

The Brazilian has already achieved the latter at Tottenham; his hat-trick in Amsterdam ensuring he’ll be a part of our folklore forever.

But the first half of that double ambition looks further away than ever with Spurs languising in eighth in the Premier League table and out of all cup competitions ahead of the resumption of the 2019-20 season.

Despite this, Lucas believes that Jose Mourinho has taken us “to another level” and is determined to help bring trophy success to the club before setting his sights on a return to his hometown club of Sao Paolo.

The 27-year-old winger told Globo Esporte: “You know I have that goal in my career. But I have things to achieve here, the club is growing a lot.

“With the arrival of Mourinho and after last season, we reached another level. I aim to be champion here. I really want to be a champion and mark my name in the history of the club. When I get determined to return to São Paulo, if the club want me, I’ll definitely go there.”

I get the feeling with Lucas that he just wants to be adored in the same way so many other Brazilian footballers are. In the same interview he speaks about his regret at not being able to make a mark on the national team – “No coaches like me? Is no one looking at me? Did they leave me aside?”

Jose has made the winger feel valued and hopefully that can bring the best out of him. We’ve seen how good his best can be; just not often enough.

He can’t play up top.. He’s ok to start on the right wing though for me.. He needs to find more consistency agreed but he’s been thrown here there and everywhere including the bench alot.. Noone else was scoring a hat trick against ajax.. Lucas is a top player, i think a good run of games on his favoured right wing then he would build confidence and familiarity and consistency..

Love Lucas.. Little man, gigantic heart… I would always have him on bench to bring on wings when legs are tired. Get him to run at the more tired and slower defenders.. Brazillian babyfaced assassin.

Agree with James as well. He has a lot of ability but not quite there for me.

I think you’ve summed him up very well.If we want to see our club achieve real success he is only good enough as a squad player not first eleven.
Unfortunately Kane’s prolonged absense, when both the last two managers tried to utilise him in the striking role,he came up short.

Just lacks that little something that would take him to the level of Son, runs into dead ends, final pass can be poor. Hard to see him improving at 27. Very honest player, always gives his best and a likeable personality.
