Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane scored a brace against Everton FC, helping him surpass Arsenal legend Thierry Henry on the Premier League’s all-time goal-scoring list. The Spurs marksman has 176 goals, and the next player to leap over will be Frank Lampard with 177.
During a segment on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (via Daily Mail), Teddy Sheringham was a guest pundit, where he called Kane the best striker in the world. Sheringham feels Kane can capture Alan Shearer, who scored 260 during his career.
“He’s the best No 9 in the world for me. He’s been the best for the last four or five years. Keeps proving it year in and year out,” Sheringham said.
“Without a doubt (he’s going to catch Shearer’s record), I mean, he’s probably got five years left at the top. The way he scores goals every year – without a doubt.”
However, the 55-year-old stated that the Tottenham star will leave the north London club to win trophies. Sheringham added that a footballer has about 12-14 years to play at a high level if they’re lucky and that Kane, who’s in the back end of his prime at 28, finds himself at a crossroad in his career.
“He’s got to eye up the situation – the same as what I did really (when Sheringham left Tottenham for Manchester United). Short career, you get probably 12-14 years if you’re lucky,” Sheringham said.
“He’s coming into a crossroads in his career of “what do I do, do I stay at a club which might challenge or do I go somewhere I know they’re going to challenge. If I was advising him, you want to play at the top level, you want to play in Champions League finals, you want to be playing for the league title. If you want to do that, I think he needs to leave.”
Kane is under contract until 2024 but was the subject of many rumors linking him to Manchester City, but a move never occurred.

Kane is the best player in the league, there’s no denying it. He’s Pirlo, Totti and Inzaghi in the same player. If he leaves in the summer I won’t blame him one bit
The most poignant part of that interview was his reason for leaving Spurs. They lacked ambition
City will after the performance he put in against them
My favourite player as a kid, can’t stand the bloke now and you’re right he was painful to watch.
Who’s going to stump up the figure for Kane? Teddy is Albert Steptoe.
Funny how very little has changed since Teddy was at the club, star striker needs to leave to win trophies. Spurs fans may not like to hear it but he’s dead right, Kane’s wasting his time at Spurs.
Teddy was very low energy in that studio, like getting blood from a stone
