Will they be able to do what Conte wants” These two Spurs stars will struggle reckons pundit

By Bruce Grove -

Kevin Campbell has cast doubts over the futures of Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham and he suggests both players won’t fit into Antonio Conte’s system.

The Italian is famous for using wing-backs as one way to attack and that reduces his reliance on attacking midfielders and he rarely plays with a number 10.

Both Alli and Ndombele have been used in that role at Spurs and they could now struggle to fit into Conte’s system.

Ex-Arsenal man, Campbell tells Football Insider: “Alli is a number 10.

“That is not a position in this Conte team. I’m not sure how it is going to go for him.

“There has been crazy thoughts about Ndombele and Alli. At some stage both players were supposedly heading out of the club. The next minute they are in the team again.

“Will they be able to do what Conte wants? And how he wants it? I’m not sure. Conte is very intense and particular in the way he wants things done. We are going to find out but the initial signs don’t look great for them.

“Everyone thinks this transition is going to be seamless but it won’t be. This is a tough ask.

“A new manager has come for the second time in six months. These players are constantly being asked to do different things. They will be learning different stuff again. The transition will take time.”

The Boy Hotspur Say

Alli has struggled under the last two Spurs managers and the midfielder is most likely in his last chance saloon.

He will not like to hear that Conte might not have space for him in his team, however, it is his own fault that his form has been on a steady decline.

With a contract expiring in 2024, Spurs might be tempted to consider selling him if he is not back to form by the end of this season.

Ndombele has similarly underperformed and most of the time plays as if he doesn’t want to be at the club.

He would benefit from being under an intense manager like Conte, but if he cannot take his chance and Conte makes progress with the other players, he could be sold off as well.

He’s easy to drop. For a record signing with such huge talent, I’m told, all these managers can’t be wrong. He’s a dud. Get rid. Another fragile prima-donna likecDele.

He is paid a lot of money, but he has not be given a chance to fail. Most times he is one and done and that is a shame. Kane and Son can go games out and we sit here saying, they will come good next game. Tanguy does not fall in that category. His personality is different and I think he has rabbit ears. Amazing that he and Hugo are not buddies, but strange enough Hugo and no one are actually buddies on the team, Mr Captain. I know he can be a great guy, he celebrates his mates goal with more enthusiastic than he does his. When Jose gave him a run at the 10 spot, 65 minutes per game. He was sensational until for some reason Jose think it was ok to not use a return Loceslo at the holding position and switch Tanguy. Mason insulted him by not gving him a minute in favor of Winks and Dele. I would want to be outta there too. Contrary to the naysaysers the way Conte set the team up, he will have a lot of room to operate with no wingers and go wherever and that opens up for his on the ball skill. As former coach his weakness to me his secondary because when you have 2 defensive mids that is the license for your creative players to take chances with the added security behind you. One of the early issues I see with Skipp is he looks him off too often when he shows for the ball to make a lateral pass that beats no one, instead if he puts it on Tanguy he will work over his marker or make the same pass from a deeper position taking out a player or two that Skipp would have played as a safe pass. Huge difference in advancing the ball.

I can see Aulas wishing to foist an erratic and serially unfit midfielder on us (a record signing!) for Daniel’s Lloris shenanigans back in the day.

Hardly his fault he’s on his 4th manager, put that one at Levy’s door.

Nonsense from Camp Bell as usual, N’Dombele is a player Conte has gone on record as saying he likes. He can break the lines between midfield and defence which is what we need. Especially with Lo NoShow being more erratic than a windsock in a gale.

Winks has mote chance of a comeback than Del Boy he is finished at Spurs.

Ndombelly is a different matter. A Gold posted up his problem months ago so I wont repeat it but in all honesty unless AG has it wrong his attitude stinks the place out.

It’s difficult to make an argument for Dele staying at Spurs. The best players adapt to changes in formations and positional play. My guess is that Dele spends the majority of his spare time complaining he’s being played out of position. He’s not consistent enough to have a team built around him.

Ndombele is a strange one. Not making any excuses for him but it feels like he’s been with us for only a short time and already he’s on his 4th manager. My gut feeling is that he wasn’t 100% sold on joining Spurs. Perhaps his previous club forced that move upon him. Either way if he can’t perform under Conte then i fear he never will. Shame, i think he has real talent.
