This blog has maintained for some time that the feel good factor in respect of the stadium and Hotspur Way was something that had passed many of the players by.
Professional footballers are not fans, they are professionals, and so market rate wages and honours are the overwhelming concerns.
A number of senior players – indeed far too many – have refused to sign extensions on their contracts. Some have successfully quit, to join other sides (Kyle Walker, Kieran Tripper) whilst others have been vocal about their discontent (Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen).
The kindest view on this situation is that is shambolic, and that the shambles was all too predictable.
