Tottenham Hotspur put the pressure on Arsenal and took advantage of Manchester United dropping points against Leicester City. The north London club put forth an excellent performance against Newcastle United, winning 5-1 on Sunday.
Following the matchup, manager Antonio Conte spoke with the media at his news conference, stating the mentality his squad needs to have in this final stretch of the season.
“We have eight finals now, and for us, every game will be important to get points and continue to dream to finish in the Champions League this season,” Conte said, per the Daily Mail.
After their win, Tottenham has moved into the top four having the tiebreaker on Arsenal, with Spurs holding the tiebreaker due to the goal differential. The Gunners have their Monday matchup against Crystal Palace to overtake their rival.
Conte also expressed that he could not see a top-four finish when he arrived in November, but the thumping of Newcastle was the latest showing that highlighted his squad’s improvement.
“Everyone is improving their level, and for this reason, Tottenham is going up and up. This league is very, very difficult, but I’m happy because hard work is paying off, and this is very important for the players,” Conte said.
“I have found a group of players giving me great availability, commitment, and behaviors. They give me credit for my past, I think, for my career, but I think now they understand that this is the right way, they trust me, and I trust them.”
Next weekend, Tottenham will face off against Aston Villa as Spurs continue pushing for a top-four finish and UEFA Champions League football for next season.

So therefore Pochettino had no control over any transfer, good or bad. Therefore it’s utter nonsense to claim he was in anyway responsible for the dross that also came in. Its obvious that the poor signings would have also ‘linked’ and scouted by the club as well before he arrived. He was a very effective coach, that’s undeniable.
People need to stop saying our managers have anything to do with transfers in order to make a point. It’s not 1986, it’s embarrassing…
Correct.
As some may recall, there was ITK to support this and both deals were wrapped up in short order as the hard yards had already been done.
Sonny in particular appeared to be on standby, he was ready so fast.
We were linked with Son way before Poch joined us ,I believe it was when he was at Hamburg. Toby was a flop at Athletico and played well on loan at Sohampton. Also we were heavily linked with Toby before he joined Athletico ,this was before Poch was at spurs
I’ll give him Foyth, a young Argie ‘development’ low-cost player that I can imagine Poch was happy to take. The rest, no chance…
Talk to Frank
Seriously, you believe Podge requested or ‘bought’ those players?
The Magnificent Six.
Stambouli came before he was even in the job, you honestly think he wanted that lot?? 😂
How do you know Poch wanted those players? Toby & Sonny were also signed during his time, who both rank of two of our best signings for the last 10 years. Let’s not mention them though eh… 🤔
It was truly disgraceful…
Just common sense though surely?
This is probably your best post ever.
Clinton N’Jie. Kevin Wimmer, Vincent Janssen, Benjamin Stambouli, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, Juan Foyth, etc – yes Poch spent well???????? Good riddance
totally agree – the rot set in from those 2 damaging windows of not signing any players under Poch and we are paying for it!
What I find unfathomable, are statements from the likes or Dier saying that it’s basically easy to fall into the trap of being complacent, when you have a top training facility and an impressive stadium. I mean, what the absolute f*ck is that all about?!
What kind of culture has taken hold since Poch wasn’t backed a few years ago? It’s pretty obvious now that we have been a rudderless mess of Levy’s design, and his clueless penny pinching and micromanagement. ‘Management’ of something he clearly lacks the basic wherewithal to carry out responsibly.
It seems they may have finally been snapped out of it by intense training and a top quality coach getting into their heads. Jose’s approach of asking for a level of personal responsibility from each and every one just didn’t float, with a squad used to being boot camped into focusing on the job in hand previously.
