Waddle suggests one Spurs player isn’t a great fit for Postecoglou’s attack-minded system

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was spotted getting upset with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the touchline during the game against Manchester United.

BBC’s Chris Waddle was covering the game and he relayed what he saw at the sidelines.

Towards the latter stages of the match, Hojbjerg sloppily lost possession in a dangerous area to Facundo Pellistri who then won a free-kick after Yves Bissouma had to bring him down.

Waddle reported on the incident:

“Yeah it’s a free-kick, definitely a free-kick, it’s in a good position.“

“But [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, play forward. Why are you going back all the time?”

“You work triangles, you play into space, turn and play forward. I can see the manager going absolutely mental when they keep going back.”

The Danish midfielder is strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer with Atletico Madrid keen on signing him.

It’s been previously reported that the qualities of the 27-year-old may not suit the style of play Ange Postecoglou wants to instill which has put a question mark on his future at the club.

He joined Spurs in 2020 after impressing the club with his performances for Southampton.

And since joining he has been one of Spurs most consistent and reliable players in the midfield.

But with him now reportedly not in Postecoglou’s plans, Spurs are looking to cash in on him.

Tottenham have so far rejected a £16m bid from Atletico Madrid as it fell short of Spurs’ valuation of him. But the two clubs are expected to reach a compromise soon.
