Video: Sky Sports pundits discuss what will happen to Tottenham if Harry Kane leaves

By Eddie Razo -

There are only a few days left until the summer transfer window closes on the 31st, and the main talking point surrounds Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. There will need to be a resolution to the file on whether he will depart the London-based club.

Should Kane depart, Tottenham will need to use the sum from a sale to Manchester City. Nonetheless, the aftermath will leave manager Nuno Espírito Santo with a significant hole to fill. Recently Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson and Darren Bent discuss what will happen to The Lilywhites if Kane leaves this summer.

Spot on mate. Enic are a cancer. Haven’t spent anything in 20 years. We should be building around Kane not flogging him.

We finished 7th in the league due to Harry’s and to a lesser extent Bales goal contributions both of which may not be available to us this season. When Harry missed three games through injury we didn’t pick up a point so I fear for us if/when he leaves.
If you recall Southampton also topped the table last season for a while and they too fell away quite quickly

We weren’t top of the league for nothing last season, and could have been miles ahead if not for West Ham and Newcastle. End of season we still had leading goals, assists and top midfielder, it was only the catastrophic (dire) errors and missed opengoals by squad players that sent us in the wrong direction and knocked the heart out of the team morale.

He’s irreplaceable and the logic that selling him to improve the team, as if we play in League One or something doesn’t float. Our owner is worth £6-7bn. We have the ‘best stadium in the world’ apparently, yet we need to sell our best player, our talisman in order to improve our defensive element with a couple of mid table Serie A defenders? Just think about that for a moment.

Secondly £150m will only buy you three decent quality players. Players that will improve this team to the point of not missing Kane will cost more far more than 50m a pop.

Kane leaving could cripple us going forward, but if money spent on central defence and creative midfield, and a couple of decent strikers it could be for the better. I have said for a while, Kane being 30% the value of the entire squad is not a healthy balance.

Could be a failure of imagination with the combined brain power of Merson and Darren Bent.

There is an argument the team has been built around Kane and the team has failed while channeling everything through Kane.

As they say it comes down to recruitment if he goes, we shall see. If Son is our main striker when Kane leaves on deadline day then Levy has done a Levy and thrown this season.
