Video Evidence: Tottenham’s Mr. Hit N’Miss Needs To Up His Game

Dribbling actions pictures c/o Sky Italy

Lucas Moura on the face of things did not excel against Crystal Palace, however, what he did offer were bouts of tenacity that can help disrupt the opposition and lead show Spurs in an attacking light. Regrettably, that’s where the good news tapers off.

Lucas Moura Total actions / successful vs Palace 56%

As you can see, the difference between what Moura does right and what he does wrong is frequently negligible. For a player that usually doesn’t pull something magical out of the hat, this is worrying.

The at-a-glance SofaScore card made Moura the weakest link against the Eagles, and they are right. Erik Lamela needs to start.

Effective playing through the middle of park. And there he should remain.

He scored a hat trick with his weak foot after coming on as a sub to take us into the final! (Botch staying true to his name dropped him)…. I would love to see you play football.

Moura was the instigator of our first goal, he won possession deep in their half and put Kane through, who squared it for Bales tap in… He unsettled them all the first half… Its a shame his distribution in general is so poor.

I would think Kane Bale and Son were doing the meaningful things with end product. Lucas “looks threatening” with his pace and that helps unsettle some teams. Take away the effective players and you are left with Moura.

Me too. Moura flatters to deceive with his pace but his ball control and poor passing is frustrating.

Stats to one side, what Lucas and – probably more so – Lamela bring to the side is energy and grit and intent and tenacity and speed and desire to get forward. Sure, they may lose possession with wayward passes, or run headlong into a traffic jam, but all of the above affects the way opponents play when you’re on the pitch. Creates nervousness and gives them the ability to drag defenders out of position. I’m not suggesting either are stupendous players, but credit where credit’s due. If a few more of the squad showed as much pluck as those two we’d be doing well.

Lucas is right footed mate… His left is almost as good though… Its remarkable he scored his Ajax hat trick all with his left.

I thought it was Kante marauding the middle.. Notice he did seem to swap with Bale a few times

First half he was brilliant, he hunted everyone down, robbed the ball off them for the first goal, winning aggressive mindset, he looked the difference I agree.. Took the game to them.. On the ball those stats are poor. Lucas always plays with intent though… Similar to Sanchez they both need to sort their distribution out.

Moura has looked good the last three games, and not for the full 90 – I’m not his biggest fan, but he seems to be clicking with his teammates in the current system.

For now.

One memorable game in 6 months seems to be the pattern.

He had ‘A’ good game, all he needs to do now is have more than one every half a year! 😂

One memorable game every six months, at a push?

He’s fine, so long as he’s not given anything more complicated than running fast in straight lines with the ball.

If you squint and watch that highlight you can pretend it’s Barcelona we’re beating… 😂

He played well, the team played well which was refreshing and what we should be doing. Not playing cr*p and losing…

Doherty is the convenient scapegoat for the Palace goal but it was Moura who lost the ball (after doing well to win it back) by trying to play an impossible throwugh ball. We were caught out of position as a result. That said i thought on the face of it he had a good game and unsettled CP at times. Jose seems to have found a position for him at last in the central attacking midfiled role as opposed to running around aimlessly getting in the way.

Moura changed up the usual script imo

Stats might not support him being that influential but watching the game unfold, just when we looked like we might be clicking into the usual pattern he’d fly in and win a ball or burst through the lines.

I do like Lamela also, he was even better in his best performance of the season against Man U – but right now Moura has this pace and tenacity that’s bringing balance. He could go cold any moment though, that’s Moura – he’s inconsistent.

I would agree that Lamela was very good when he came on. His close control in a tight situation is probably up there with Ndombele at times.Ndombele is such a woosh though. Did you see him wrapped in a blanket on the bench? When he gets tackled he hits the deck as if he has been shot. Not sure he enjoys the physicality of the EPL and the cold dark winter nights at places like Burnley et al. I have a feeling he has a yearning to play for PSG. Moura was very busy last evening but playing in the centre I noticed especially in the first half that he was playing off his right foot more often than usual and invariably that is when his passing and shooting were off beam.

You numpty. So Moura was the worst player on the pitch? Are you serious??? Which game did you watch? The wee man was absolutely brilliant. So glad you don’t pick the team.

There was end product, the robbing of the Palace defender which led to a goal. That’s what we want more of. Maybe found the right position for him more central instead of the wing.

Agree, I thought it was his best performance since a game in, where was it, oh yes Amsterdam, when he did quite well too.
Yesterday he was passing creatively, pressing and tackling, as well as the usual dribbles.
