Matt Doherty had one of his better performances for Spurs last night, and whilst it is all very right and proper to wheel out the ‘you can only play the team in front of you’ line, it may be more useful to understand that the Irishman was indulged with acres of space and opponents closer in ability to Marine FC than any Premier League side.
The assist to Bale was well weighted
Doherty got away 3 decent crosses, all of which would be welcome in any game.
In conclusion, I’d like to see more glimpses of this style of play from Matt, but worry that against better opposition that he’ll lack the opportunity. Looking at his stats from previous games, it’s a struggle to imagine he’ll ever be much more than a very one-dimensional player.
Reminds me of the Pienaar transfer – which was also bent!
Why did Wolves sell the guy ? unusually for Spurs his signing was painless.
Difficult to believe at this stage, supposedly imperious at Wolves. A complete non-entity.
He just isn’t quick enough to play that role against top class opposition. I thought that we were led to believe that Doherty was a strong Mourinho pick?
We see the marker for most of the squad. Look decent against very poor teams. Awful against decent ones.
