Very bold transfer report claims Tottenham want to sign former star

By Bruce Grove -

Christian Eriksen is one player that Tottenham would have loved to have kept, but in the final months of his last deal with the club, he had made up his mind to leave.

Spurs were forced to cash in on the former Ajax man instead of allowing him to leave them for free.

The Dane joined Inter Milan halfway through last season and he has had a mixed start to life in the Italian top-flight and their season ended in disappointment on both the domestic and European fronts.

As teams look forward to the new season, you will think that Spurs have moved on from the Danish midfielder, but it seems that they are still attached to him if the recent reports are to be believed.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Tottenham recently attempted to re-sign the midfielder after he made a tough start to life at the San Siro.

He claimed that the Lilywhites had asked the Italians if they will be willing for them to take him back, before adding that Inter turned that request down and they will not be letting him leave them.

Romano told the Last Word On Spurs podcast: “Two weeks ago, one of my sources told me Tottenham were asking to take Christian Eriksen back, but immediately after, like two hours after, I spoke with Inter and they told me there is no chance to see Christian Eriksen back at Tottenham. So, this isn’t a possibility.”

I am not sure that Eriksen returning would be met with a positive response from all Tottenham fans, I suspect there are quite a few that would rather he did not return, not after the way he conducted himself in the last few months of his tenure at Spurs.

He was too often a lightweight presence in big matches, but in any case, what a ridiculous conceit.

He is “one that ‘Levy’ would have loved to keep”.

The only way this could happen is with a loan, because then we would know if he was worth having back. For 18 months, despite making the likes of Everton look poor, he just never turned up in big games. As a result there would be no reason to take the risk to pay £40m for him to do the same. Eriksen is on a reported ‘wedge’ at Inter and we couldn’t match his pay either. A fanciful rumour, but I don’t think Eriksen would come back……although Vertonghen has left, so his wife might fancy a move to Portugal!

Surprised if José would want him back, would have to be a worry in terms of attitude and application – still, this just isn’t a goer, can’t see it happening.
