Vertonghen theorises how Pochettino will be feeling now that he is out of a job

By Bruce Grove -

Jan Vertonghen reckons that former Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing a return to big-time management and possibly in the Premier League.

Poch has been out of a job since he was fired by Tottenham last year and the Argentinean remains one of the best managers in the game.

He hasn’t won trophies as a manager but his team’s style of play has been one that most club owners enjoy watching.

Vertonghen played under the Argentinean from 2014 until last year and he knows that his former manager’s style of play suits the Premier League.

He claimed that Poch places a high physical demand on his players which is something he can get from the Premier League.

He even hinted that the Argentinean is eyeing a managerial seat in one of the top sides in the league, although he refused to name any team.

‘I think the English league suits him very well as he’s a manager that prioritises fitness levels and the physicality of the game,’ Vertonghen told CBS Soccer’s Que Golazo podcast.

‘I think managing in the Premier League is probably the best thing he can do.

‘He will always want to coach a big team I guess, so you have to look at the biggest teams in the league and there are only two or three you can really look at I think at this point.

‘I won’t name them out of respect for the other managers, but I think that’s what he’s looking at as well and he wants that big team to confirm him what he’s been doing with Tottenham and what he did very well.

‘If I was him I would be impatient because he really loved his job and you want to continue that.’

Poch worked with Southampton in the Premier League before he was appointed as the manager of Tottenham and it will be interesting to see the next Premier League side that he manages.

He’d never go there. He’d be hated by the Spanish club he loves the most. He wouldn’t manage arsenal either. Chelsea maybe. Benfica went begging. Woulda been a really good move for him I think

That would actually be funny if some people were not actually hoping for him to return….

There might be a vacancy at Spurs in the not too distant future. At which point Levy will sell all the new players and give Poch back his skeleton squad.
