Turning point for Tottenham? Player Ratings vs Red Star

By The Boy -

The feel good factor of Giovani Lo Celso on the pitch carried Tottenham to victory last night against an ultimately inadequate Red Star side. The Serbians may have a scary tunnel, but that’s about the extent of their fright.

GAZZA Just the single wonder save last night, but it needs to be said, this boy looks and feels more agile than any goalkeeper we’ve had since Jennings. I hope the club continue with him, and don’t feel obligated to get in a senior player.

FOYTH was rock solid. Passing accuracy of 94.4% and only fluffed 4 balls all game, with 12/12 in the attacking third for wing-back fans to be warmed by. More, please.

DANNY ROSE gets the job done, but boy has degenerated into a blunt instrument of a player. There was the assist, he recovered the ball plenty, but there were also 4 fouls (all of which could have been averted), 2 missed crosses and the 29-year-old’s passing was sub par, 76.1% against a side of this quality just smacks of carelessness.

SANCHEZ was sold enough, passing was sound and although this was just one game, it would be really helpful if Poch would bite the bullet and give the boy a proper run out. More of this later today.

DIER isn’t my all-time favourite Spurs player but in the midst of the madness at Tottenham, there could be a solid case for having an unexceptional, yet dedicated man in the middle third (where incidentally, Eric saw a hell of a lot of the ball, making 65 passes).

TANGUY made some interesting contributions, as ever, but this wasn’t his most profound performance. Make no mistake, this was more of the man getting to grips with being at Spurs, opposed to being weak.

LO CELSO provided a great starting XI debut, there was the goal, an 89.9% passing accuracy, and 2 chances created. What Lo Celso really offered was a fresh face. This really was a fine example of a change being as good rest.

SISSOKO was a beast. 94.7 passing accuracy, the Frenchman was resilient, imposing and creative.

DELE ALI was much improved, which is faint praise. Passing accuracy was great, nearly 92%, he created 3 chances, but he was struggling not to be a peripheral figure – again. Pochettino needs to give the boy a defining role. The 23-year-old is naturally a shadow striker and the sooner the gaffer plays him in a more forward supporting role the better. Hopefully.

SONNY scored 2 goals after what had been an upsetting week, composed and fully concentrated.

KANE isolated again.

ERIKSEN scored, yet his celebration was strangely subdued. The sooner he’s out of Spurs, the better the esprit de corps in the side will be, the distraction of this wannabe Real Madrid player has run its course.

If its a sporting blockbuster Amazon are after then they could do worse than the story of Sissoko and his Lazarus like rise from the dead. He must be one of the first names on the team sheet now. Fair play to him.

Eriksen was embarrassed that his scuffed shot went in off a defender and gave the keeper no real chance. But the other Spurs players seemed to enjoy his scoring a goal.

Marcus. Your locker will be here waiting for you boy. Don’t worry you’ll be part of future Tottenham glory. Keep doing what’s asked of you son with Marcus added.
