Thomas Frank, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, spoke to the media after Spurs’ 2-2 Premier League draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Tuesday evening. The game saw Spurs twice come from behind, with Cristian Romero scoring both Tottenham goals, but a controversial late penalty denied them victory.
Frank expressed overall satisfaction with the performance, while highlighting frustrations over the refereeing decisions. What was extremely notable was his desire to praise both the players and the fans.
“The relationship with the fans isn’t as strained as some reports suggest—it’s not 5, 10, or 20% lost, as I jokingly put it earlier this week. We’ve had tough results at home this year, only three wins in 2025, and the boos after recent games hurt. But tonight’s fight away shows progress. I get the frustration; I share it. We need results to rebuild that bond, starting with a strong showing against Brentford.”
“Romero was outstanding—two headers from corners, timing his runs perfectly. He’s our set-piece specialist now, and his leadership at the back was immense. In a game where we needed aerial presence against Newcastle’s physicality, he stepped up big time. Delighted for him; he’s been massive since returning from suspension.”
“Very pleased with the performance tonight. We showed great character to come back twice against a strong Newcastle side at home. Scoring two goals away from home, especially through set-pieces with ‘Rom’ delivering again, is something we’re building on. The draw feels like two points dropped because we were in control for large spells, but it’s a point earned in a tough venue. The lads deserved more, but we’ll take it and move on to prepare for Brentford.”
It would appear that the fans have won the day, in respect of booing, and that the penny has dropped to the players that if they play well, then they too will be treated well.
