Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Real Betis midfielder, Johnny Cardoso, in recent months.

Tottenham have an option to sign him for a fee of around €25 million this summer. They secured a first refusal on the player when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to the Spanish club. Despite having a major advantage in the race to sign the player, it seems that they could now miss out on the midfielder.

According to reports from Spain via SportWitness, the player is not convinced about a move to the north London club. Their domestic form this season seems to have put him off. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham try and convince the player to join them in the coming weeks. They could still end the season on a high by winning the UEFA Europa League. They have made it to the semifinals of the competition.

There is no doubt that it has been a disappointing season for them, and they will be desperate to bounce back strongly next year. Spurs need quality players for that to happen. Signing the La Liga midfielder would be a superb decision. He will add physicality and defensive cover to the side. He has proven himself in Spain, and he has the attributes to do well in England as well.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Tottenham need more depth in the middle of the park. Players like Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma have been underwhelming this season, and they should look to bring in an upgrade on both players during the summer window.

Johnny Cardoso is a player in demand

Other clubs have been linked with United States international as well, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. If the player moves to another club, Real Betis might be able to recoup more money. It would be a preferable option for the Spanish club as well.

Premier League side Wolves are keeping tabs on the player as well, but they are unlikely to be an attractive option for the player.
