Fabrizio Romano has revealed that signing Cristian Romero remains Tottenham’s priority in this transfer window.
However, the Lilywhites do have a Plan B in the event Romero is not signed.
Spurs have been busy in this window with Fabio Paratici eager to add new quality players to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad before the window closes.
The Lilywhites failed to make the top six in the Premier League last season and they will be keen to have a better campaign in 2021/2022.
The defence was one part of the team that failed to deliver acceptable performances and Spurs are keen to address that in this window.
Romero has seen his stock rise since he moved from Juventus to Atalanta and he helped the Argentinian national team win Copa America.
Romano says Tottenham is keen to sign him, but Spurs and Atalanta haven’t found an agreement over a potential €55m move.
If they cannot sign him, Romano says they will turn to Nikola Milenkovic, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kurt Zouma all combined for the same fee.
The transfer insider tweeted: “Tottenham still in negotiation for Cristian Romero but no agreement yet on €55m fee – he’s the priority. 100%. White circle #THFC
“Plan B: open talks to sign 3 different defenders with same amount. Tomiyasu [€18m], Milenkovic [€15m] and Zouma [€25m].
“Caleta-Car, NOT even an option.”
A player could be on the moon, mate
To be fair the lad is playing at the Olympics
“If they cannot sign him, Romano says they will turn to Nikola Milenkovic, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kurt Zouma all combined for the same fee”
Can you imagine a top 4 club taking that view.
In a nutshell – why we’re the club we are.
Plan B: Be willing to watch 4 other teams qualify for CL again.
Yeah and you know what goes into sausages.
458 by some counts.
Are we being led up the garden path again as when Skriniar/ Dias morphed into Joe Rodon?
A lot of giddy excitement from some Spurs fans believing Levy has turned the page.
The proof of the pudding as always will be in the eating.
Levy will bottle it for sure over the price of Romero. His lowballing antics are why we’re in such a mess to begin with, and it appears the man is incapable of learning from his past mistakes it seems. Presumably he doesn’t want any more CL football, Nuno will be impressed.
Romano is usually a reliable source so this quote is a bit worrying.
My question is: if we do get Romero who plays alongside him? Toby was the best of a bad bunch last season and now he’s gone. Is there a risk we are buying a top quality player to play alongside Dier, Sanchez & Rodon?
Rodon has potential but the other 2 are liabilities.
I was kinda hoping Dier’s days were numbered….
How many weeks is it we’ve already been linked with Takehirp Tomiyasu and still we are nowhere near. It’s becoming a joke thanks to baldie.
Why can’t we have 2-3 of them the defence needs complete overhaul
We need a strong spine to the team… for that sometimes you’ve got to pay the going rate and not try to ‘Low Ball’.
Here it comes… “linked” to the best, argue over the price, settle for the back up, spend 5 years moaning about them.
Same story, different window.
Are any of the reported three an upgrade on Dier, Tanganga, Sanchez? Nope. But Romero is a significant upgrade on all three.
Hence we won’t get him. Low balling, baldy tw@t. Back the manager, get the deal done.
I mean you couldn’t get more Levy than this could you. “Buy cheap, buy Thrice”
This place is a veritable sausage factory.
Please not Zouma – always an accident waiting to happen.
Have we reached 100 links yet? I’ve not been counting.
