Tottenham to enter a bidding war for 28-year-old England international

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is set to battle with Everton for the signature of Wolves defender, Conor Coady.

The Englishman is currently with their national team at the Euros, but he looks set to become one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s first signing at Tottenham.

Spurs made the Portuguese their manager last night and he will look to bring back exciting, attacking football and trophies.

He will obviously take a good look at the players at his disposal at Tottenham and he might be satisfied with what he sees.

However, Football Insider says he is set to return for Coady who he helped develop into one of the finest defenders in the Premier League.

He worked with the Liverpool academy product for four seasons and they won promotion to the Premier League together.

Everton has also just appointed a new manager, Rafa Benitez and he wants to sign the defender.

The report says his links to Merseyside means the Toffees are serious competition for Tottenham.

Wolves have been a selling club and would likely cash in on him for the right price.

Now that they have installed a new manager, Tottenham is expected to get busy in the transfer market.

Let’s break it down I got that you are a Poch fan, and you are being optimistic about Nuno, for me they are all the same and I don’t see them as a success. in a way you touched the point when you mentioned Mourinho, if you compared him I wouldn’t have asked you the question cause it makes sense and this is the focus point Mourinho won trophies all the clubs he has been except Tottenham, what does that tells you it tells you that the problem and solution of Tottenham club is not and never been a manager or any manager under Enic time therefore I don’t see why you are optimistic with some managers ie Poch and now Nuno while they did not win you anything and they will not as long as the root cause exists. Another point you mentioned which make me say you are a Poch fan is that Poch was let down by Levy, do you know any manager that Levy did not let down? let alone that he forced some out of the club against their contract and will ie AVB.

Perhaps the lines should have been these!!

“Oh What A Circus”

Oh what a circus! Oh what a show!
Daniel Levy has gone to town
Over the death of an sports club called Tottenham Hotspur
We’ve all gone crazy
Mourning all day and mourning all night
Falling over ourselves to get all, of the misery right

Oh what an exit! That’s how to go!
When they’re bringing your curtain down
Demand to be hardnosed like Daniel Levy
It’s quite a sunset
And good for the country in a roundabout way
We’ve made the front pages of all, the world’s papers today

But who is this Daniel Levy
Why all this howling hysterical sorrow?
What kind of arsehole has lived among us?
How will we ever get by without him?

He had his moments–he had some style
The best show in town was the crowd
Inside the staduim singing, “Harry Kane”
But that might be gone now
As soon as the smoke from the finances clears
We’re all gonna see and howl, he did nothing for years!

Salve regina mater misericordiae
Vita dulcedo et spes nostra
Salve salve regina
Ad te clamamus exules filii Levy
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes
O clemens o pia

You let down your people Daniel Levy
You were supposed to have been a chairman
That’s all they wanted
Not much to ask for
But in the end you could not deliver

Like you said we don’t spend big so by buying a guy who can only sit in the middle of a 3 we would still need to buy another 2 dcs it doesn’t make sense we are trying to replace Dier/ Sanchez.

Fair enough. We can’t stick with what we have though. With Euro Conference football we won’t be attracting too many well known pacy, good in the air and ball playing CBs that is for sure. In a back 3, Coady would be a good fit.

Depends what your definition of success is, and I am being serious. From mid table nonsense in the 90s and 00s Jol, Redknapp and Poch all improved us, yet it was Ramos who won a pot. Before him George Graham. Poch punched above his weight with his hands tied behind his back and a blind fold on. Poch did not win a trophy like Burkinshaw in the 80s, the manager I remember and seeing as being a success. Was Poch a failure like Gerry Francis, Christian Gross, definitely not? Has Bielsa been a success at Leeds? Has Moyes been a success at Wet Spam? I think they have been. For a whole host of reasons Poch was let down by Levy, ultimately leading us on this path.

I think it is quite obvious why I raised Poch’s Southampton win ratio. You are inferring that Nuno’s Wolves’ win ratio means something. I don’t think it does. Put a good coach/manager in a better environment and they’ll do better. Poch is doing that now at PSG. Spurs have a better squad than Wolves so Nuno should do better here than there, that is not to state he’ll win a trophy, not with the squad we have that is certain. A win rate from a past club has no bearing on how he will do at another. Just look at Mourinho.

In terms of lies, damn lies and statistics, one could easily argue that 38% from 120 games is better than 38% from 60 because they have had more games. Otherwise Tim Sherwood’s win ratio for us is simply breathtaking! It is how you want to view it.

That’s what I’m saying I don’t think we need a small Dc who isn’t dominant in the air or particularly pacy.

Let me ask you this with all due respect do you see Poch as the most successful Manager in Tottenham? yet he did not win anything with Spurs I’m curious why you comparing with Poch, even in your comparison can you imagine Nuno has to play almost double PL games that Poch played to get the same Win Rate of 38% cheers

If a ball playing (Coady used to be a midfielder) leader who can defend isn’t our profile I do not know what we need. I think Sanchez and Dier had bags of potential but both have regressed massively. They are bad together and not that good when Toby is next to them. Lots of players could have been in the England squad but they are not. Dier was no way near. Maguire, Stones, Mings, Coady, White, Keane were all ahead of him. Levy won’t put his hands in his pockets even if we got rid of Sanchez and Dier, so I agree on the cost.

If you mean pass, organise without having to win duels or get in a foot race Toby could do that for another few years at Coadys level….I’d rather Boly

Football is about opinions… and I completely disagree if Dier held it together a bit he would have been in the England squad instead( that’s not a good reflection on Dier) and like I said he’d be expensive and not even the right profile of DC.

Poch had a 38% win rate at Southampton from 60 games too. I will judge Nuno on what he does with this squad in comparison to Jose. I am not saying Nuno is the Messiah, but it would help with this squad he’s inheriting.

Is it me….or does it feel that we’ll be a top 8 side at best this season?? Nuno doesn’t strike me as a person who will rock the boat or ruffles feathers. Suppose that’s why Levy ousted Jose so he couldn’t be told some home truths!!

I’d take that monster Traore too if they’re doing 2 for 1…
