Tottenham target set to leave his club after they identify a replacement

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has been handed a boost in their bid to land Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne after the Italians identified a replacement for the Belgian.

The right-back has been marked as a possible replacement for the error-prone Serge Aurier, who is being targeted by AC Milan.

Castagne has been one of the most important members of the Atalanta side that reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Italians play one of the most exciting football to watch and every member of their team makes a telling contribution to their overall success.

Just like most of his teammates, he is being targeted by some of Europe’s top sides and he is a serious transfer target for Tottenham.

He is rated at £18million, according to Football London and he might be on the move to Spurs this summer because the Italians have already started planning for life after him.

The report claims that they have lined up Standard Liege full-back Mergim Vojvoda as his replacement.

The Italians will pay £5 million and he has confirmed that there has been contact between his team and Atalanta.

“Atalanta representatives have come to Belgium two or three times to see me,” Vojvoda told Gazeta Ole, per Football Italia. “I agreed terms with them and I now expect the two clubs to work out the details together. We’ll know after their meeting on Monday.

“There are another three clubs interested in me too, but so far Atalanta are definitely the best prospect.”

This is definitely a boost for Spurs, however, everything will hinge on whether Aurier is sold and that will come down to Daniel Levy and how much he will accept for the Ivorian.

Probably because the Belgium league is a much lower standard than Italy.Jose wouldn’t want to take a punt at this stage.

The Danny’s aren’t that popular too, except for Thomas maybe.

I like the look of this player but why not go for Mergim Vojvoda at Standard Liege he would come in well under £10m

Years ago, the football preview (on Grandstand I think), featured ex Arse goalkeeper Bob Wilson: the extent of his bias saw no bounds and he always found some way to insert Arsenal clips. It was excruciating to watch his relish and consequent restraint from touching himself as he again and again introduced the Goons as the random example to illustrate some meaningless point.

For some time now I’ve noticed a similar fixation from our man Bruce Grove; there is clearly some unholy self-satisfaction being indulged with the barrage of sniping pot-shots taken at Serge Aurier; it’s always the “hapless” or “error prone” or “unreliable” Serge Aurier: that’s when it is not a focussed blog on how we need to get rid.

I mean, did the guy do a number on your boyfriend/girlfriend in some past encounter? You’ve made your feelings clear, how many more burning brands can you reasonably hand out?

We know that Aurier has made some errors of judgement, but he also shown a damn sight more fight that a number of his colleagues, he grafts and he seems to learn – he’s been getting better.

Now putting your faith in the Italian media’s view is IMO a tad brave, especially as I can think of a number of contrary reasons:

1. He is the only Right Back we have and we really need two: would we really have sold the only other one? If we sign another RB it should be as cover/competition not replacement.
2. He is proven at EPL level as a wing back, others are not. There is less risk even with the odd error, than with someone with no EPL exposure.
3. He’s now and will be getting better cover putting less pressure on him when tracking back – and particularly from getting drawn inside usually because Winks has gone missing Holbjerg and Lo Celso should help that.
4. He’s liked. Watch the body language amongst the players when we score and I think Maureen likes him too, he’s a fighter and can be a proper C**t and not just a stupid one!
5. He has really good attacking potential – we need to ensure we are providing him with options to find when he’s going forward – Harry being fit again will help that.

Bruce, you put together some good blogs, but if you want to pillory someone try Danny Rose or even Dele Alli: I’d take Serge Aurier over those two air thieves any day!

Now of course I could be proved wrong about the outcome and he may leave – indeed if he reads all the crap that’s written about him he may want to! But take away the “I hate Serge Aurier” emotional groundswell and I reckon we’d be dumb to sell him and maybe as happened with Sissoko, a bit of support, y’know from “the supporters” could see this guy doing some seriously good things for us.
