Noel Whelan has told Football Insider that he will not be surprised if Danny Rose sits out the final year of his current deal at Spurs.
The Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs and he has also been declared surplus to requirements after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho late last year.
The defender was shipped out on loan to Newcastle United in the January transfer window and he featured on 13 occasions for the Magpies.
Football Insider, however, claims that the defender will unlikely be signed on a permanent deal by Steve Bruce’s side, which means he will have to return to Spurs and then look for a new home.
Whelan reckons that the full-back’s outspoken nature makes him a strong character, but it hasn’t worked for him at Spurs lately as he does not appear to be wanted by Mourinho.
He reckoned that there will be teams looking to sign him, but he might opt to remain with Spurs and see out his deal.
Asked by Football Insider what Rose’s next step could be, Whelan said: “Danny Rose seems to be quite a strong character, he speaks his mind.
“It’s not worked out at Tottenham, and that can be the case when a manager comes in. They like some of the players, they don’t like others.
I think he knows where he stands with Tottenham, he knows he’s not wanted there and he’s got to find another football club, that’s for sure.
“He’d been given that opportunity at Newcastle and now they’re not going to take up that opportunity to buy him.
“There will be clubs out there looking at Danny Rose knowing that he has a lot to offer.
“It’s up to the player, we’ve seen players sit on contracts and will only go if the move is right for them.”

I disagree wholeheartedly. He is the longest serving player at the club and only second to Noble in the PL. He has been there 13 years bar a few loan spells and is the best left back the club has ever had. He shows more passion on the pitch than most and loves Tottenham. He wanted more money and rightly so when other were getting new contracts but Levy the bastard has a problem with Rose because he has balls and speaks his mind. We could use him in the last season. He is a England defender and still has enough quality to do a job. His Newcastle spell showed that.
I don’t think so -legend as a negative disruptive voice. Still he always said he wanted to “go home” to finish out his career. Unlikely that anyone will be willing to buy his contract and pay his wages so I think the Prescott suggestion might make sense.
The man is a club legend! Show him more respect than that!
Rose is a totally negative character and should not even be allowed to enter the training grounds. If he chooses to sit out his contract, Sell him to Prescott for 1 pound with his wages paid. Send him away where he can’t do any more damage.
