Former Tottenham midfielder turned pundit Michael Brown, reckons that Spurs might struggle to sign Bournemouth striker, Callum Wilson this summer because he will not want to join a team and remain on the bench.
Wilson is set to be made available for transfer this summer after Bournemouth’s relegation from the Premier League.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for the former Coventry man, but Brown reckons that the Lilywhites won’t be the only team looking to sign him, especially if he will cost just £10million as the Mail Online claims.
The Englishman hasn’t had the best of seasons, but to some, he remains a good striker. Spurs are looking for a capable backup to Harry Kane and that is why the links to Wilson.
Brown has looked at the situation that any new striker will be walking into at Tottenham with Harry Kane already the club’s leading striker and guaranteed to start in that position.
He told Football Insider: “If it’s for £10 million there will be a queue of people who will want to buy him. It all comes down to whether they need a second striker.
“If a striker is going to Spurs they need to ask if they are a wide forward because Harry Kane plays the number nine role.
“If you see someone who can play out wide in a three or they can play two up top because Callum Wilson will want to play, I can’t imagine him going to sit on the bench.”
Tottenham just cannot guarantee any striker a starting berth and if that is a deal-breaker then so be it.
I’ve mentioned before there is quality in the Championship. If only we had a scouting department.
Sarr would be ideal but he’ll cost real money, how about Ollie Watkins from Brentford?
He’s the still made 27 appearances,2 less than Kane.Plus they had at least one other striker to choose from.
He struggled to get into the Watford team much of this season that’s why.
Judging by Kane’s recent injury woes he won’t be on the bench as much as he might think.
Why not offer Deeney a 12 month contract. He’s younger and more mobile than Llorente ever was.
He would be a big physical presence up front, likes a scrap, would be a good foil for Kane (assuming he stays) or could play up front on his own.
When Kane goes we then have to get in another top striker.
Callum you’ll get games, come man.
He is more injury prone than Kane. Rather like Hjoberg, it would be an underwhelming signing but it shows the extent of our ambition which is zero. How players as good as Kane and Son, whom incidentally does not look like a happy camper, can stay at a club without any ambition defeats me. Let us not pretend that the top clubs will not reinforce their squads substantially. Now is the time to take advantage of the supposed weakness in the transfer market to reinvigorate the squad. Alas, we have the wrong people running the club to do this.
Vorm’s gone.
Funny how Burnley can keep 4 strikers (Wood, Rodriguez, Barnes and Vydra) happy. We are going to be playing 60 odd games next season, plenty of games to go around. Harry will be rested for a lot of the Europa dross games. I think for £10m Levy will be licking his chops.
Here we go again. It’s a merry-go-round of punditry nonsense. I’m surprised we have 3 goalkeepers!
What a remarkable team we are, the only team in world football that can only accommodate one striker.
