Emerson Royal’s desperation to impress Antonio Conte has reportedly led to him spending nearly £1m (£800,000) on trying to improve as a Tottenham player.
The 23-year-old joined Spurs for £25 million in 2021, but he initially failed to impress Conte. The Times reported in January that the manager thought the wing-back did not ‘fit the bill‘ particularly going forward.
However, Royal has gone out of the way to improve his game. According to The Sun, the wing-back has purchased his own hyperbaric oxygen tank to help maintain his fitness levels.
He also also reportedly requested a scouting report on Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, who thrived under Conte’s system at Inter Milan, scoring seven goals in 45 games.
In addition, he has also hired a neuroscientist to help him cope with the ‘psychological pressures of being an elite athlete’.
And while his end product is still not what Conte would like from his wing-back, no one can question his dedication and efforts to improve and perhaps it is one of the things that impressed the manager the most.
Conte recently expressed his admiration for Royal, saying that he was “really happy with” him and was impressed with his work ethic, adding that “he has improved a lot since last season.” And much of this improvement could be due to his expensive off the pitch efforts.
One gets what one pays for!
in truth Emerson has improved but you do feel he’s got a ‘ricket’ waiting round the corner
Silk purse , sow’s ear ?
If you want a wing back or RB similar to Trent , to Reece , Or even a Kyle Walker or Trippier , you go out and buy Trent , Reece , Walker ……..they are out there and , if you are a Club that appears to have a bright future and a field of dreams , they will come …………or return even !!!! Play well today Lads — we ARE BETTER than them ……………………………………………. C O Y S !!!
It cost absolutely nothing to practice your delivery while on the move, or your one-v-one attacking – both of which he is poor at.
If my parallel parking and reversing around corners is rubbish and I want to pass my test, I take lessons and practice. I don’t see a psychologist and watch videos of someone parking and reversing
Bravo!!!
Fair play to him if this is the case. There’s no doubting there’s been an upturn in his performances of late, and there’s decent player in there somewhere. I want to see prolonged consistency before I up my assessment of the lad from in and around the below average area to anything north of decent. I do hope he comes good.
