Tottenham reach an agreement with Serie A defender; discussing transfer sum with Italian side

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve its backline this summer, and the Premier League side is on the verge of landing their target to begin rebuilding the defense.

According to Calciomercatonews, Atalanta BC defender Cristian Romero is getting closer and closer to Tottenham. One hurdle is cleared for a possible transfer as Tottenham has an agreement with the player’s entourage on a salary.

There are no further details on what time of salary Tottenham is offering Romero, but it seems as though it’s enough that both parties to agree on a deal.

For the transfer to occur, the final hurdle for Tottenham to clear is to reach a deal with Atalanta over a transfer sum. There is still a slight distance between Atalanta’s request for €60 million and the British offer of €50-million.

The report states that FC Barcelona tried to hijack the transfer, but the club’s financial situation prevents them from making a suitable offer.

As it stands I dont think they even can sign players for free.
Read somewhere that they are more than €1billion in debt and significantly over the La Liga salary cap. While over their cap, they can only reinvest 25% of any incomings. With Messi re-signing, I dont think they have much wiggle room.

That day arrived a few years ago when the Barcs signed Paulinho. But now that Bartomeu is gone and Laporta is back they’re making some better decisions like signing Messi and bringing in a real striker like Aguero instead of Braithwaite and such. It will take more time to rebuild the defense, but if they really want Romero he’ll be in Spain this season.

Never thought I would see the day Spurs and Barcelona going for the same player, and us financially outwrestle them. Crazy days

The Mail has Toby agreeing a deal to go to Al-Duhail in Quatar for 13M.I thought he would have gone back to Ajax or to Belgium.

A lot of clubs are in similar deep financial doo doo, hence the ESL project, a lot of if’s but at least we look like we are searching for players in earnest.

Keeping it serious for a change……we are lucky that Barca are in shit street financially.
Perhaps this is our year to be lucky.
I havent seen or heard anyone who actually dislikes Nuno (unlike the last bloke) he never made himself 8th favourite for the job so maybe this is our season.
