Harry Winks has suffered from the upturn in form of Tanguy Ndombele and the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this season.
The Englishman had been one of the first names on the Tottenham team sheet previously.
He remains a reliable player for the club, and that explains why he still gets called up by the England national team even when he isn’t playing so much club football.
He has been a part of the England set up in the current international break, and he was substituted in as England were beaten 2-0 by Belgium yesterday.
That game was a tough one for England as they struggled to break down a very organised Belgium side.
Gareth Southgate started with the central midfield partnership of Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice.
Both players struggled in the game and Winks was brought in after half time as a replacement for Henderson.
The midfielder impressed Ashley Cole in the time that he spent on the pitch with the former Chelsea full-back claiming that Winks livened the game up when he came on.
He said on Sky Sports as quoted by HITC: “You’ve got Henderson in front with Declan Rice, maybe I would like to see someone better on the ball,
“I think when Harry Winks came on it livened the game up a bit, he was forward passing a little bit more.”
