Tottenham ‘in talks to terminate’ star player’s contract – he does not fit in Postecoglou’s plans

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly engaged in discussions with Croatian star Ivan Perisic regarding the termination of his contract, according to the latest report in Turkish media.

The versatile player joined the club during last summer’s transfer window on a free transfer from Inter Milan, under the management of Antonio Conte.

However, since Conte’s departure from Tottenham, Perisic’s future with the team has become uncertain.

Reports have linked him with a return to Italy, specifically a potential move back to Inter Milan.

And more recently, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have emerged as potential suitors for the Croatian winger.

Turkish outlet Fanatik (via Sport Witness) has reported that Tottenham are currently ‘in talks to terminate’ Perisic’s contract, which has one year remaining.

If the contract is terminated, it would allow Perisic to join any club of his choosing on a free transfer.

The report claims that Fenerbahce who are strongly linked with the player, are said to be waiting for the negotiations between Perisic and Spurs to conclude before making an offer.

One of the key factors influencing Perisic’s future is the recent appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham’s new manager.

Under Conte’s system, Perisic was primarily utilised as a wing-back. However, with the change in management, the need for such a role is expected to diminish with THE Australian’s preferred formation being a 4-3-3.

Perisic had a decent first season at Spurs. He made 44 appearances across all competitions last season, scored one goal and providing 12 assists.

Destiny Udogie returns from his loan and is set to be a contender for the left-back role.

Whether Ange Postecoglou signs another left back or not remains to be seen.
