Tottenham Hotspur legend states club made the right call on not paying £50-million for Adama Traoré

By Eddie Razo -

This summer, Tottenham Hotspur wanted to improve their attack and had various names on their target list. The north London-based club wanted Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traoré as they hoped to reunite him with Nuno Espírito Santo.

However, Tottenham saw one offer rejected by their Premier League rival for the 25-year-old. Nonetheless, a former Spurs legend saw this rejection as a blessing in disguise.

Graham Roberts stated to Football Fancast that his former club made the correct decision not to pay £50-million for Traoré, which was Wolves’ asking price. Furthermore, the forward was interested in reuniting with his former Wolves manager this summer when these reports surfaced.

“The club have Sonny [Heung-min Son], and they have [Lucas] Moura,” Roberts said. “Yes, Traore’s a different player, but when they’re going 50, £60m, no. They’re just playing on English club with English club. So for me, 50 million, no.”

It will be interesting to see whether Tottenham decides to revisit the Traoré file, whether it’s in the winter or next summer, as the Spain international has two more years left on his current contract.

Should Wolves be unable to secure a long-term deal with Traoré, they might have to listen to offers down the road.

Traore would be a big upgrade on Bergjwin (based on what Ive seen this season with the former having more dribbles in one match than our boy does in a month), but for that amount of money not worth it. We badly need a playmaker and a 2nd striker first.

Is he better than nothing is the comparison as we didn’t bring in what we needed attackingwise if you take Gil as Sonny’s replacement/ back up.

I agree, I’m not sure if he would have improved us. Anyway we bought Bergwjin who brings similar things, who is also not good enough…

Not what we need.
Nearly every complaint I read now about Spurs is about not replacing Moose & CE. Traore will never have the required end product.
I was more impressed by Gallagher on Saturday he bossed midfield.
£40m for Harry Winks that cannot be real.
