Spurs new boy Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is better than Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson|image

By The Boy -

This is admittedly simplistic, and there are good many nuances to player which fail to get reflected in these head-to-head comparison, however, it is difficult to dispute these individual stats.

When looking at players coming from supposedly lesser clubs, it’s frequently the case that an argument can be made for a player in question improving if he were in a better side.

The great thing about Pierre, is that he’s the opposite. The 25-year-old has been over performing for a lower side. In only one discipline did the Football Writer’s Player of the year beats Hojbjerg. That’s very respectable.

This is a great transfer. Medical on Monday.

I think Jose is going to be building jigsaw puzzle with his budget, he will not get a real player, more a group where each piece does a bit and will need to make that work. I am no fan of Jose, but he will have to really prove himself here.

Interestingly Sessy played at youth level as a central striker… By the time he was in fulhams senier side (when he was just 16) he had progressed to left back citing bale and shaw as idols, trying to emulate them.

Thats what I was going to add. Davies is our only left back if rose is gone.

He started his career as a full back. Fulham moved him up to the wing similar to bales progress with us.. When we signed him he was touted as a left back who can play on the wing too…. Maureen gave him a game at left back, he was pushed back alot we were up against it. After that he said he needs to be more aggressive. Has similar traits to ash cole but hes not ready for full back yet. So he will compete for left wing for now…. Its funny how maureen says hes not ready for full back yet. Most (nearly all) managers would say hes not ready for the wing yet. The progression is the other way….. We need to give ryan game time either with us or on loan to a prem club. He needs the experience if hes to hit his potential.

Noone was like the moose. He bossed that middle and linked everything up. Miss him loads. Shame he never had goals in him….. Pierre does have goals in him.. Pierre is better defensive, rather than with the ball. His passing stats are poor with alot of sideways and backwards, so he should be right at home with our current crop… He is what we need though. Teams have walked through our midfield recently.

I hate to disappoint you, but he is quite clearly nothing like Dembele whatsoever…

I find your question irrelevant to the point I am making. The situation is what it is in the present and we know what we would like in the future. ‘Alternatives’ are not currently available…

Credit unsung hero Henderson who originally considered to be a weak link in the side was by no means the fans favourite but being an impressive performer over the past couple of seasons was a vital cog in Liverpools title triumph.

Having divided opinion one player we have missed is Dembele.
Perhaps this guy is an adequate replacement who is capable for chipping in with some goals!

He’s got the right profile for that role but is he a decent enough footballer?

We as Spurs fans are a funny lot, we get so excited about signing a player, just ANY player because of how the club is run. We just seem relieved that we might just get something done this summer, Its a fairly desperate and pathetic state of affairs..

These stats are slightly misleading, Henderson has played as more of a box to box player and even a wide player this season in a very well oiled machine. He hasn’t needed to make as many interceptions and if you look at the dribbling stat it’s pretty obvious that they’re being compared when their roles have been very different. PEH can’t dribble according to this…

Very underrated player Wanyama when he was fit.

Bayern are doing things in a progressive way and innovating, much like Barca did some years back. Jose is very much Back To The Future…

Dier nailed the role a few years ago, then Wanyama came in and Dier has never been the same and Wanyama declined because of fitness so it’s true that we have nobody. Winks isn’t that kind of player and neither is Gio or Tanguy. All of those three need a player like that in the midfield alongside them.

My only fear is his passing, both stats and reputation amongst saints fans suggests he loses the ball a lot. I think his leadership, and never say die attitude will do enough to improve us, and I hope a better quality around him will assist his passing through better player movement, but still a worry. I guess that’s why he is £20m instead of £80m.

I feel like he will do for us what Wanyama did [for s season] & what Fernandinho did so importantly the two previous seasons for Man.C
Breaking up play & giving it to more forward thinking players or occasionally playing that forward pass over the top that players like Winks should be doing alot more.

Over the last few games of the season we were crying out for a midfielder to make a tackle on front of the defence.

Just hope he develops a few attacking skills. Nothing wrong with popping up with a Wanyama thunderbolt every now and again.

Well said Cow – don’t forget one of the best forms of attack is the counter so if PEH nicks the ball of of (say Sterling) he can give it to one of ours who can hit on the counter.

BM are machine like in their system and look the best in Europe right now, as for Sess, he is is no FB and never will be, there is no aggression in him, and is too easy to expose, yet teams seem to prefer using pacy wingers as WB’s, and seem to get away with it most of the time.

A strong character by all accounts, so he could be ideal if he can win his teammates round.

Listening to the Bayern game last night commentator said Bayern don’t buy fullbacks they buy wingers who can cross the ball and teach them how to add defending. It seems to work for them, should be able to do that for Sessegnon, nobody seems to know what he is, fullback, winger.

Be even better if he’s a potential captain/a leader/vocal – a starting 11 with this lad, Toby and Kane you’d hope would show a bit more mettle?

CowSpurs

He is an upgrade on what we have, that is progress. He isn’t going to make us better offensively, but I am hoping for him to kick some of the opposition in to touch. All players should be able to contribute in attack, even Kante and Henderson have a goal and a pass in them. Hojbjerg does run all day, this can set a tone, especially as Lo Celso does as well. It’s a small part in a jigsaw that was needed. We do need more. Let’s see what Levy can do.

I think that your coaching advice is from the Harry Redknapp school of management.

James McKevitt

One thing he can do well is tackle without fouling, he likes to rob the ball coming in from the blindside and he’s very strong, very hard to disposess.

He doesn’t score many goals and his passing isn’t brilliant but he can improve all those things that’s why we’ve paid so much for a top coach to make the players better. He’s not a sexy player more like a Milner or Henderson but Liverpool have built their team around those two. I think he’ll do well.

His role is simple – when (insert name here I will start with Abangamanga) runs towards our box he kicks him up to where the cheese room would have been, collect the ball and give it to one of our midfielders.

I’m confident this is the right player at the right time – Jose needs a General (Matic, Ballack, etc).

Hoping this is his man.
