Tottenham have not given up on signing in demand Dutch ace

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham remains keen on landing Dutch midfielder, Donny van de Beek despite him seemingly moving to Manchester United.

The Lilywhites have been battling the Red Devils for the signature of the Ajax midfielder.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield in a move that might signify that he will not rely on Tanguy Ndombele in this transfer window.

Spurs have already added to their midfield with the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer but the special one wants more signings.

Van de Beek is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe right now after his starring role for Ajax.

He was part of the team that reached the final of the Europa League in 2017 and he was also a member of the exciting Ajax team that reached the semifinal of the Champions League in 2019.

Most of his teammates from that time have left the Dutch club and this summer will be his time to join a top side.

Mirror online claims that the midfielder is on his way to Manchester United, but Spurs made a late bid to hijack the move.

Until the midfielder is announced as a Manchester United signing, Spurs will keep trying and considering the cordial relationship between Ajax and Tottenham anything is possible.

It is far from being negative, it is reality. What I wrote are genuine questions and problems that Spurs face if a player of quality is linked with us. Man Utd offer bigger wages than us, are in the Ch Lg and have a bigger history. Those are facts and will undoubtedly sway a player’s decision to sign, unless you know of a single player who has turned Utd down for Spurs in the last 20 years? I’ll point you in the direction of Teddy, Berbatov and Carrick who left us because of all 3 points, nevermind choose between us and them. I gain nothing from wishing and praying. Spurs also have a track record of leaking big name transfer targets to appease fans, last season it was Bale, Fernandes and Dybala. The link between De Beek and Spurs might get some fans excited but I have been here to many times to be conned. Spurs have bought well in terms of where the club is financially, but I am not delusional to think that if Mourinho was at Man City, Utd or Chelsea he would have signed Hojbjerg or Doherty. Your last sentence was interesting. It reads as though HH and Bruce should not write any posts and any responders should be subservient to Spurs and this blog? The whole point of the De Beek post was to engage debate. Whether I have supported the club since the 70s has no bearing on me disagreeing wholeheartedly in Spurs having a chance of signing De Beek. From what I have read and heard about the transfer to Utd I am correct.

I dunno, when he puts it like this I think I’d probably sign for them over us!

Why so negative? A player decides who he wishes to sign for & on what terms, nobody else.
IF Spurs are trying to sign him, why not hope they can instead of the immediate dismissal & pessimism?
Or do Spurs have their eye on someone else & want to ‘pressure’ Man Utd into a deal – it happens, you know.
Don’t forget, at moment were near limit on non-homegrown players so the balancing act has to be a major consideration & Spurs can’t buy everyone they’re supposedly linked to, which by my reckoning, is over 20 players this window, according to the various media outlets speculation, fabrication, fairy tales & nonsense!
Let’s all just support the club & manager in THEIR decisions, PLEASE.

Silly season in full and unabashed swing. We clearly have nothing better to do. I blame our parents.

Ch Lg or Europa? Real Madrid or Lokomotiv Plovdiv? £175k pw or £100k pw? A club that heavily invests or a club always looking for bargains? Theatre of Dreams or Multipurpose events venue? Join a midfield that will include Pogba and Bruno or Lo Celso and Sissoko? Tough choice! If Levy gets some fans believing the club are aspiring to bigger things for no money spent he will sleep easy.

I don’t believe a word of it. How many times have we read the headline ,” Spurs attempt to hijack the signing of ????? at the last moment”. Levy /Donna Cullen spin.
