A number of fans have reacted to the new revelation that Tottenham pulled out of the deal to hire Paulo Fonseca as their manager in the summer because he refused to play defensive football.
Tottenham had gambled on a more defensive approach to the game when they hired Jose Mourinho as their manager in 2019.
The Portuguese boss appeared to be leading them to a shock Premier League title win at the end of last year when Tottenham topped the standings.
However, things quickly unravelled for them, they dropped out of the top four and Mourinho was fired.
Tottenham fans were hoping the club would soon appoint a manager that plays attacking football as they had done under Mauricio Pochettino and targeted Fonseca.
However, the move collapsed after it looked all set and done and they eventually named Nuno Espirito Santo as their next boss.
Fonseca’s revelation that he would never play defensive football was posted on Twitter by Sky Sports. Here are some reactions:

Kane, Son, Gil, Lucas, Bergwjin, Lo Celso and Ndombele and they want a more "conservative approach"? Makes sense.

Yes, very good point. It’s as clear as the nose on your face. The fans are basically paying for ENIC to amass asserts. As any ‘customer’ base might do.
it’s pointless fans thinking they’re anything else…
The clue is in the title, ENIC, aka The English Investment Company. The football club is the anchor tenant. That says it all.
If he didn’t understand the dynamics of a younger side, ie a more cheaply assembled group being coached on by a coach suited to such a task, then he really is beyond help. Well we knew that anyway.
Clueless about the football, utterly clueless, and that’s being kind. Because the root of the issue, is that he isn’t particularly interested in the team being successful. ENIC would ultimately make less money if they went for success on the pitch. Besides, they’d have tried it by now after 22 years if they were going to…
Levy’s big mistake was thinking that because Poch achieved relative miracles on a meagre budget anyone could do it.
He’s learning the hard way.
Levy isn’t fit to run a poundland store let alone a big football club. In fact he runs it like a poundland store where everything costs over 50 quid.
LOLZ
The only way to force the owners out is to boycott the games…..but that will never happen.
Until the owners have rinsed every penny out of our great club, they are here long term.
Mass demonstrations were being talked about a few months back, one was planned for October, but that seems to fallen by the wayside.
Precisely…
I’m afraid we overachieved finishing in the top 4 every year with the budget we were working under Pochettino. He made Levy look like he was a credible chairman for several seasons.
All we are seeing now is the actual reality of the situation on our spending levels, without an overachieving coach covering it up…
It’s all in the DNA innit Daniel? 🤔 😂
Is it any wonder why we’ve won nothing under Levy and Lewis? They simply haven’t got a clue when it comes to who to sign as manager, and when they do sign someone they don’t back them and want them to run the club on a budget. 20 years we’ve had of this and nothing will change unless we get rid of ENIC. Time the fans demanded they sell.
Look at the alternative
Still no trophies & 7th
It makes me laugh when I read the above comments, we over achieved under Poch (yes won no trophies) and our owners instead of backing him, decided to expand their property port folio.
Their delusions of grandeur have made us fall back to where we used to be and unless something changes this is where we will be for the foreseeable future.
It’s not rocket science, Jose was sacked before he had the chance to win something, which the owners knew would have given him the clout to get rid of the deadwood and demand a hefty transfer budget to take the club forward.
The league table doesn’t lie, we’ll just tread water, players will run their contracts down, forcing the club to sell them.
I don’t blame any of them, we should have sold Kane and used those funds to completely revamp the squad and kicked on.
