Threat Of A Fan Backlash Caused Transfer Deal To Die

Antonio Rudiger’s decision not to quit Chelsea and join Spurs was made on the basis that the player feared the reception he might get from Blues fans, according to The Athletic. To be bluntly honest, the 27-year-old would have received more aggravation from Tottenham fans.

In a recent poll we held, 69% of those that voted didn’t want to see Antonio in a Spurs shirt. Which is fair enough comment given the chaos the player caused with allegations of racist behaviour from some of our fans – behaviour that was never proved one way or the other.

I take a view that Rudiger is one of the best centre backs on the planet and, IF José Mourinho felt he could coach him, then I really couldn’t give a damn what baggage came with him.

Spurs are assembling a squad of players with a winning mentality, and I won’t be fretting over how some of our fans feel about whom we sign. I touched on the winning mentality in my last next show, and it’s the entire focus of the next episode, which will be out this week.

It’s a debatable point H. From a playing standpoint, would he have strengthened the weakest area of the team? Undoubtedly, yes. However it is hard to ignore the racism slur, levelled at Spurs fans, regarding which Rudiger has previous form, equally unsubstantiated. On balance, I can live without seeing him in a Spurs shirt!

I watched Foyth in preseason still making the same mistakes ,as if he hadn’t learned. He was taking to long on the ball and being closed down to easily. He was trying to be too clever on the ball in dangerous positions when he didn’t need too.We always want our young players to make it but we can’t afford to be sentimental if we are to be serious challengers, hopefully he does well on loan.

Eh what fans? In fairness its probably the bile he would have to deal with on social media rather than fans in the stadium. I think he is a good player and recall him putting in plenty of good performances with Chelsea. Decent centre halves are not easy to come by these days without breaking the bank. It was a yes from me.

Did he win a league with Chelsea?

Decent player but not one of the top in the world in my opinion. I’d prefer him over Stones but not by much. I’m also a bit disappointed about Foyth’s loan. I know the boy has a mistake in him but I was hoping it’s something that José could correct. Because I’m still convinced there is a class player there.

you really think he is that good? I disagree, but each to their own. He reminds me of an old Wenger type player, all teh athletism, but needs to be taught how to play. His reading of the gameis very poor.
