“They actually stunned Liverpool” Pundit highlights the effect of new role for Spurs man

By Bruce Grove -

Moussa Sissoko has been one of the more reliable members of the Tottenham team since Jose Mourinho has been the club’s manager.

Mourinho likes to have a strong midfield that can protect his team when their opponents attack whilst also helping to launch counter-attacks.

The Special One has found the midfield trio of Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg solid and they have played together in most of the club’s league games this season.

Sissoko has played mostly in central midfield, but in Tottenham’s last game against Liverpool, he was moved to the right side of midfield and he did just fine.

Mourinho will have made that tactical change because he wanted to surprise Liverpool, and Michael Brown thinks that the Portuguese manager succeeded in that regards because the Frenchman performed well.

He said that Sissoko has remained a key man for the club and that flexibility makes things better for them, and also means players are buying into Mourinho’s tactics.

Brown told Football Insider: “We’ve seen Sissoko go out wide, so looking at it, they actually stunned Liverpool. Although Liverpool had opportunities and dominated possession, the goal was unfortunate.

“He’s been a real dominant force for Jose and that flexibility to go out on the right-hand side, you’re thinking: ‘That’s not him,’ but he just did well with it.

“The Spurs players seem to be buying into it and are obviously enjoying being towards the top of the league.”

I don’t know if they were stunned, but they were opened up 3 times and were fortunate to concede only one of those chances. If I were a defence coach that would worry me a lot.
Their first goal was a fluke, their second was dubious following blocking off the ball. Not a convincing victory for me, and I have seen lots of our abject defeats at Anfield to put that into perspective.

‘They Actually Stunned Liverpool’ as the headline? Really?

we did ok in the 2nd half and had three good chances but still lost. At which point were our opponents ‘stunned’? 😂

Yes Mr Tappa, I look forward to the Leicester game. We will see how Jose has got into the players heads. Changed their ‘Poor Me’ mindset and move on COYS!

I’m hearing that José couldn’t believe we only knew one way of playing. Attack attack attack from poch. He says that style is not good all game, have to learn to play without the ball, to soak up pressure and counter attack ect. This is why he’s got the team playing this way. Defenders must be able to defend before they become wing backs (serge) next season everyone should know how to play without being in possession. Sounds right to me. Gwarn José.

Sissy is having his best ever season at Spurs so far…as long as we don’t go into next season relying on him, as that would be pushing it, then fair enough
