“There’s no reason why he can’t do that” Pundit reckons struggling star is on his last chance to remain at Spurs

By Bruce Grove -

Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, says Dele Alli is probably on his last chance to remain a Tottenham player.

The midfielder has been on a steady decline since 2019 and has been out of favour under the last two Tottenham managers.

However, Antonio Conte will give everyone a new start and that means Alli would get the chance to impress him and earn a recall to the Tottenham starting XI.

Agbonlahor sees no reason the former MK Dons man should not get back to form and warns that he might not get another chance if he cannot take this one.

“When I look at the Spurs squad I still see problems there,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“It’s alright changing the manager and the tactics but you’re still going to need players who want to run around.

“Ashley Young said that at Inter the players had to run, training was hard.

“We’ve seen Dele Alli can run, so as long as these players that might come back into the fold put the yards in then they will play under Conte.

“He will give everyone a chance. Whenever a new manager comes in, if you’ve got no previous with them, it’s a clean slate for everybody.

“This might be last chance saloon for him [Dele] now at Spurs. There have been a few managers that haven’t played him.

“This is a chance for him to get back into the team and show what he can do. There’s no reason why he can’t do that under Conte.”

The Boy Hotspur say

Alli has looked so out of sorts that it would take something drastic to return him to his previous form.

Alli was a fan favourite but he has been unable to make as good a contribution as he did under Mauricio Pochettino with either Jose Mourinho or Nuno Santo.

Conte is one of the hardest managers to impress and that is a good thing for Alli because the Italian would force him to work hard and earn a first-team place again.

If he cannot do that, he would hardly get another chance and he could even struggle to find a top club that would take a chance on him again.

A prime example of what Pochettino could do with players, get more out of them under a collective mindset than their individual abilities night normally dictate. A combination of age, coaching abs confidence. Hard to imagine him ever hitting the form of a few years ago.
