“The Tottenham solution being the most plausible” Italian journalist says Sarri wants Tottenham job

By Bruce Grove -

Italian journalist, Carlo Laudisa, says Maurizio Sarri is open to becoming the next Tottenham manager.

Spurs need a new head coach after they fired Jose Mourinho some weeks back.

The Lilywhites have made Ryan Mason their manager until the end of the season with the former midfielder overseeing two wins and two losses from his first four games so far.

He will be replaced by a permanent manager by the start of next season and several names have been linked.

Spurs have reportedly targeted the likes of Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter.

One other familiar name that has been linked is former Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian helped the Blues to win the Europa League in 2019 and won the Serie A the following year with Juventus.

He has been out of work since the Old Ladies sacked him last summer and he would jump at the chance to manage in England again.

Laudisa told Radio Punto Nuovo via Sun Sports: “Sarri could go to England.

“The Tottenham solution being the most plausible, but the Arsenal bench could also become free, as [Mikel] Arteta has missed all the Gunners’ season goals.”

Yeah, its fair to say our scouts are useless.. but I’d be surprised if Leceister finish top7 next season…they have made some dud signings but some good ones too… I’ll never understand why we werent interested in Tielmans, or even Andre Gomes at Everton.. Julian Draxler was out of contract this summer… why weren’t we looking at him? If Levy had half a brain cell there could of been a loan swap with him & Alli….

Ndombele in the jorginho role could work I reckon. The guy wriggles out of so many tight spaces

A deep lying issue made worse by Mourinho, who split the group into factions thinking they would compete more….well we know what happened there.

We’ve just got rid of all the charisma you will ever wish to see from a manager, plus Parker is not a laugh a minute either, I’d prefer Potter if he was interested.

Clever signings like Leicester / West Ham + a manager who can get more out of the team than the sum of its parts would provide (like Leeds).

Under Poch, we didn’t have the best side in the league, but we had some excellent players and the identity we had (especially in the last year or two at WHL) gave us an edge. It can be done, but not if we keep wasting money on random things like 18 months with Jose or a year of Bale.

The Tottenham manager appointment is a paradox, if you want a style of football there whole sale squad changes. If you want the best out of the squad then the style has to change with less squad replacements. The manager shortlist changes depending what you pick but so does recruitment.

We cant compete financially with; city, chelsea, utd or liverpool yet we’re expected to dethrone one of these every season… What am I missing?

Ndombele and Lo Celso were big signings. Mourinho was signed on massive salary likewise Bale. There has been fairly significant investment but there isn’t a bottomless bucket of money. Spurs can’t compete against Chelsea, City and Utd.
The investment level will improve in due course if stadiums get back to normal operations.

I think Biesla is a good manager but I think his tactics are perhaps better suited to a team like Leeds where players are hungry and buy into the brand of football.
He’s also got a reputation of falling out with owners, think he left Lazio after five days

Not being disrespectful but Graham Potter is hardly the most charismatic manager. That said he has done a good job at Brighton.

Strangely not getting his first choice manager has actually worked out well for Levy, Martin Jol and Pochettino weren’t his first choices.

Brighton have been unlucky due to poor finishing and player mistakes. They were all over Wolves yesterday first half and although the tide turned after half time, the decision by Dunk leading to a red card effectively gave the game away.
Brighton always seem a tough team to play against.

They might want to win things and improve the global brand but they don’t want spend the money to do it.

Osvaldo your last paragraph accurately describes Leeds Utd in terms of the intensity of their play and easy on the eye stylish brand of football!!

I’ve read that Levy is still infatuated with Brendan – and that he’s prepared to pay well over the odds.

Levy’s infatuations have caused us problems before. I’d be happy to take Brendan if he had responded well to inquires. He’s made it clear, though, he’s happy at Leicester (and yeah.. I see why). So money-man Levy thinks he can just keep raising the bid (because money is the answer to everything and everyone has their price).

Spurs might not have won anything but they have come close in recent years. Ultimately winning things improves the global brand which is what Enic and Levy want.
The owners of Man Utd are largely despised even more than Enic but they are 2nd and in Europa League final.
This season has been tough and the team is not all pulling together, which seems to be some deep lying issue. Hopefully a new manager with fresh ideas can improve matters and build a team that has energy and spirit.

He might be the best of the rapidly depleting options. And… because expectations will be lower he might actually exceed them.

Sarriball is a strategy that worked well for Napoli but not so well for Chelsea.

At least it would be a more watchable ‘attacking’ brand of football than some recent matches we have seen… and perhaps reminiscent of Poch. But opposing teams ‘found out’ Jorginho’s importance, and in heavily marking him nullified the strategy. Sarri, like of some Spurs more recent managers, didn’t really have a good plan B.

So best case… we have exciting attacking football that would be like Poch at his best, and from a manager who has won a proper cup.

At worst we will have results like poch when he was losing, and Sarri unable to switch things around.

I’m going with other opinion I have seen. Done a lot of reading lately and I’m on the Brighton boss. Don’t care where they are in the league. United and fergie would not have happened but for that game. So even the best get it wrong. We have tried all sorts. Let’s give him a chance. He plays a great style of football. Clear out the defence let him bring in younger hungry players. Suck it up for a year or two see what he does. Kane and son are gone in the summer that is for sure and I don’t blame them.

Chelsea move with the times and hire the right manager at the right moment to keep winning things with a constantly changing (and very expensive) squad. Levy gets their sloppy 2nds and then doesn’t back the manager properly, he’s clueless.

Either my first choice Scotty Parker or alternatively don’t suffer fools gladly Big Sam “I’ll sort em out” Allardyce for me!!
Definitely not cheery Sarri!

Makes no difference who bring in as manager, while Levy is in charge as it will end the same way as previous managers. For the first time as a Spurs fan, I have lost any optimism I still had in the past, even when things weren’t going so well for the club. I reckon there are many other supporters feeling the same way now. Thanks ‘genius’ Chairman, as some enlightened fans will refer to him as.
