“The move makes absolute sense to me” Pundit says Tottenham man is perfect for his new role

By Bruce Grove -

Kevin Phillips is the latest pundit to hail Daniel Levy following his appointment as a board member of the ECA.

The Tottenham supremo has gone from being one of the villains of the doomed European Super League to being an executive member of the European Club Association.

A few clubs backed him to take over the role and he will now represent the rest of the Premier League.

Levy has developed a fine reputation in football business in recent years. Some of his achievements include making Tottenham a bigger club than Arsenal and helping them to build a new stadium.

However, what he is most known for is his ability to negotiate the best deals for himself and his club and he showed that again this summer after stopping Harry Kane from moving to Manchester City.

Former Sunderland ace, Phillips believes he is the man for the job and he has shown that repeatedly.

“He is a very clever businessman,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“We saw that with the Kane situation this summer. He stood his ground and he came out on top.

“They have looked at him and they know he is a good businessman, which is good for him.

“He has experience. He was criticised for the Super League stuff but I don’t think the people who voted for him will care.

“They need to make sure he makes decisions in the best interests of football rather than for a financial benefit.

“He’s a well-known figure and the move makes absolute sense to me.”
