“Talks ongoing”, “expected in next few days” – Club is working on getting ‘priority’ transfer done before deadline

By Mehdi Gokal -

Real Betis are actively pursuing a loan deal to bring Giovani Lo Celso back to the club, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

The Spanish club has made the Argentine midfielder a ‘priority’ signing and is in talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the potential transfer.

Galetti’s latest update on the situation states that negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs.

While Spurs are reportedly open to a loan move for Lo Celso, they are seeking to include an obligation to buy clause in the deal. This clause would ensure that the transfer becomes permanent after the loan spell.

Galetti shared the latest on Celso on Twitter:

Real Betis, Giovani Lo Celso is a priority. The club is working for the return – on loan – of the player: talks ongoing with Tottenham that want to include in the deal the buy obligation clause. New developments expected in next few days.

Giovani Lo Celso’s future at Tottenham has been a topic of speculation, with reports suggesting that he does not have a central role at the club under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Despite earlier indications that Postecoglou wanted to keep Lo Celso, recent developments seem to point towards a departure.

The Argentine midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the Tottenham squad in recent years and has spent time on loan, impressing during those loan spells.

He was included in the Tottenham squad for both the Premier League matches but remained an unused substitute.

Ange opted with a midfield trio of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison against United and the three of them looked rock solid, complementing each other as they put in a dominant performance to win 2-0.

Real Betis’ pursuit of Lo Celso comes as the club seeks to bolster its midfield options. Talks between the two clubs are expected to continue in the coming days, with further developments likely before the transfer window closes.
