Spurs urged to let go of two players in the upcoming transfer window

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Aston Villa striker turned pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested that Tottenham should get rid of Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet.

Spurs signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on a loan deal and was considered a stop-gap signing after the club failed to sign any of their top choice centre-backs.

His contract ends at the end of the season but latest report claims that the club are interested in signing him on a permanent deal after being impressed by his performances.

Meanwhile Davinson Sanchez’s contract with the clubs expires next summer and it is extremely likely that the club will cash in on him this summer after him failing to establish himself with Spurs.

And he has come under harsh criticism yet again after his recent performance against Bournemouth.

Sanchez did not start the game but was brought on in the first half to replace the injured Clement Lenglet, and he was responsible for the poor defending that led to Bournemouth scoring their second goal.

As a result, the 26-year-old Colombian defender was booed at every touch he took after that to an extent that Cristian Stellini had to take him off the pitch.

The big money move to Spurs has not worked for the Colombian and the TalkSport pundit believes he should be let go in the summer alongside Clement Lenglet.

In an interview with Football Insider, the pundit said:

“It’s a tough decision because he has some good games, but he is also capable of some really poor performances.

“It’s easy to see why Spurs fans want Dier, Sanchez and Lenglet out of the club. You can understand the frustration.

“But the club might not have the budget for two new centre-backs, so it might make sense to keep Dier on a new contract.

“But if you look at Arsenal with Gabriel and Saliba, and other teams with reliable centre-backs – you understand that frustration.

“He’s better than Sanchez and Lenglet, so you might look to keep Dier as a squad player and get rid of them – but they’ve got to sort out some new blood in defence this summer.”

Tottenham have the worst defense in the top half of the league having conceded more goals than any other side in the top half.

Tottenham are linked with a number of centre backs ahead of the summer transfer window as they look to improve their defense going into next season.

The likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij are among the names linked with a move
