Sport| Spurs ‘on the scene with force’ to secure star Xavi Hernandez has cooled interest in

The backline is an area that Tottenham Hotspur wants to strengthen, as they want to add a central defender to go along with Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. The north London club has been linked to various players, including FC Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet.

Sport reports that both clubs are in advanced talks, and manager Antonio Conte wants to convince the central defender to accept the proposal from the Premier League side.

Spurs and Barcelona are closing in on a one-year loan deal for the 27-year-old, despite the La Liga club preferring that Tottenham sign the central defender permanently.

The north London club would be willing to deal with a large part of the player’s wages in the summer move. Furthermore, a conversation between Conte and Lenglet could take place as soon as next week to help accelerate the deal.

Lenglet appeared in 27 fixtures last season for Barcelona, but isn’t a name that Xavi Hernandez is counting on him for next season.

Maybe they are genuinely using the money to pay cash up front to get better deals…maybe they are recovering from Le Celso, N’dom and having to pay for Romero and they don’t want to lose Conte so have injected some cash…..I hope we are not waiting to sell before we buy as we know how well that ends up…I’d take Richarlison, that’s probably our level, although I would aim higher than the Spence lad….

Look I hate Levy always will you can quote me as Levy’s biggest detractor but this is just calling down the first £100m of £150m maybe this is to cover Jed & Richarlison.
Still plenty in reserve.

Hard pass on Lenglet unless you enjoy the sight of Lloris yelling “idiot” in French a lot.
