Dele Alli is reportedly out of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup tie against Burnley despite manager Nuno Espirito Santo talking up what a big game this was for the club.
Spurs have not made a particularly convincing start to the season and surely need to come away with some silverware after such a long wait to win a trophy, so it’s quite damning that Dele doesn’t look set to be involved, according to the Daily Mail.
And yet, in a way, the only surprising thing about this story is that it’s still seen as a surprise. But Dele can surely have no complaints after his total loss of form, which goes back a couple of years now.
The England international hasn’t fulfilled his true potential at all, despite looking such a huge prospect in his early days with Spurs, and it makes sense that Nuno might now be thinking about phasing him out.
Finding a buyer for such an out-of-form player is a whole other challenge, however, and might be one reason we’ve not seen the last of him just yet.
