Plane With Banner Was A Hoax: Spurs fans scammed for hundreds of pounds maybe more

By The Boy -

A swindler has quite cleverly conned hundreds of pounds from Spurs supporters who thought that they were funding a plane to fly over the stadium yesterday, trailing a #LevyOut banner above the North London Derby.

There was no plane and now it appears that there’s no money either.

What made the plan work, was the crook behind the scheme is said to have used a high profile, established account to promote the non-existent venture.

This account claims to have been hoaxed itself

The scammers’ bogus account that contacted @nad_THFC was apparently only set up a few weeks ago, and featured no Spurs content until recently, yet still managed to persuade @nad_THFC that the plane and banner existed.

I have to add a personal note to this business. After Villas-Boas quit, I looked into the same idea, and phoned around a number of aviation firms in the south of England that offered a personalized banner service. At that time, I was provided with several quotes, cheapest of which was £650, then, years ago.

However, nobody could do the run because of some Aviation Authority rule or other. So I scrapped the idea (I also looked into a drone, but the reception at The Lane was notoriously unreliable).

So I tweeted at the account promoting the scam… and I was completely ignored.

One would imagine that the cops will be involved, PayPal accounts investigated and IP addresses collected. Tracking the crook down won’t take long. So if you donated, contact PayPal immediately, don’t stand for this.

Mind you, I was also telling people what a disaster ENIC would be for Spurs for years and few listened to me then either.

It’s laughable. Also the way the pundits are all so happy about it is suspicious. The media have been paid off too…

Yes, all those fans turned their backs on their clubs by wanting their owners out. Unfaithful and weak I take it… 😂

😂 When that arsenal plane was first reported I immediately imagined looking through my binoculars and seeing you in the cockpit driving the thing.

There was a damning documentary called ‘The Men behind Manchester City’ made a few years back. Lifts the lid on just how corrupt and nasty their owners are. Proper investigative journalism that’s sadly on the wane these days.

That said I’m sure most City fans don’t care. They suffered for decades before the money rolled in.

the fact that their stadium sponsorship was at least twice that as Arsenal should have drawn red flags. At the time Arsenal were perennial trophy winners, had a large brand new stadium and were really considered on the up…City were struggling, trhowing good money after bad to break into top 4, and a smaller stadium…yet they get a sponsorship deal worth £400m over 10 yrs vs Arsenal $280m over 15.. then a small bit of digging and you realise that the Etihad have links and family ties to the owners of City…yet this deal is above board? you joking! that is just one example.

Easy to pay people off when you’re owned by a wealthy country. A bunch of suits are suddenly about to buy new cars and yacts no doubt. Will never be investigated properly.

Yeah, I read in the above article you reached out on twitter, and figured you didn’t want egg on your face if the rules had since changed.

Just thought the journo’ in you might have mentioned the research – if only to speculate and provide some background. Would’ve been an impressive quasi-scoop.

I knew that was going to happen, City will laugh at a fine. Money talks and UEFA need all City’s moola, they’re not going to stop City spending big on players especially with things as they are.

In fairness, several years ago it took me hours to find the right firms and eventually get told it wasn’t possible, so I did raise the issue on Twitter, but they ignored me.

It was possible that the CAA had changed the rules, but not my business to turn into the ‘Equaliser”!

I suppose then the Liverpool fans who wanted Gillette and Hicks out of Liverpool were anti-Liverpool and the Blackpool fans that opposed the Oyston family were anti Blackpool and the Wigan fans who wanted the shysters out of their club were anti Wigan. And Bolton and Arsenal and Manchester United fans, all opposed to various regimes all anti fans. And those notorious Newcastle fans who want to see the back of Mike Ashley, anti Newcastle.

What a royal balls up. Levy must rolling around with laughter inside his subterranean dosh vault.

I’m surprised this blog sat on the prior knowledge that a flyover was likely not possible.

The ENIC/Levy out campaign has gone off like a damp squib. Beating Woolwich yesterday – whilst great – hasn’t really helped the cause either.

Pushing your anti spurs drivel again harry. You said that about ENIC then we qualified for champions league 5 seasons in a row, challenged for titles and European glory and built a world class stadium and facilities and a super squad with the most successful manager in world football at the helm next season, oh how right you were!
