Spurs man targeted by Barcelona, this transfer would probably be welcomed by most Spurs fans

By Bruce Grove -

Davinson Sanchez has been linked with a move to Barcelona in the next transfer window.

The Colombian is a member of a struggling Tottenham defence that could be overhauled in the summer and Spurs might not stand in his way.

Jose Mourinho has been let down by his defenders too often this season, if he retains his job, he will probably prioritise changing that part of the team..

Barcelona is set for a big summer and signing a new centre-back is at the top of their priorities.

They have plans to sign Eric Garcia and David Alaba on free transfers, but they face competition for the signature of both players.

El Desmarque via Sun Sports says they are now looking for alternatives and Sanchez is one of the players they want to sign.

The Colombian arrived at Spurs in 2017 after helping Ajax to reach the final of the Europa League.

He has struggled in north London this season with Mourinho’s team unable to hold on to leads sometimes with him at the back.

Milan Skriniar remains a Tottenham target and the Lilywhites would be happy to sell Sanchez to the La Liga side to raise funds for the Inter Milan defender.

I think Pep was interested in Wins ti take their homegrown quota up, that’s why they signed players like Delph and certainly Walker. As a rotation player in a quality squad and a quality manager who plays a style he’s fit into, he’d do alright. Winks simply isn’t as bad as some people make out…

Sanchez’ first season or so was outstanding. Verts may have helped I agree…

Should never have let Verts gp, Levy would only agree a one season deal on a reduced salary. It’s saying something when Benfica offer favourable terms than us (no disrespect to a great club).

We have really felt his absence from the squad, you don’t know what you had until it’s gone sometimes. He could easily have played on for another two seasons with managed game time.

Ledley even managed that and his leg was falling off in the end, quality is permanent. Unfortunately our chairman lacks it…

I’m not so sure, he had that rest of the season when Toby did his hamstring against RM, but then after that even Poch didn’t play him consistently even with Jan. I’d say there is not as much class as hoped.

Why won’t levy pay? Oh yeah your judging him from the old lane and probably think ENIC/levy are nicking all our money

Let’s end this obsession with Skriniar, that ship has sailed.Levy will never pay and he’s got CL football to worry about next season.

Spurs, the only club to regularly make a sow’s ear out of a silk purse.

Astonishingly, I’m in agreement with you Taps. When I first saw this I had to check to make sure it wasn’t the 1st of the month. Then I remembered Popescu and Paulinho. It could happen, probably will knowing our luck.

There’s a good defender in him. He can play, he just needs the right partner like Verts. Verts had him on point. Kept him concentrating right till the end

With high pressing the norm now, defenders who aren’t comfortable on the ball and able to pass under pressure have very little future.

I can see no long term future for Davinson unless he makes big changes to his game. He might be retained as a squad player for lack of any club willing to meet the chairman’s valuation.

I can’t see that.

Reliable journalists have said they had to revise their original offer to Garcia (free agent, so it’s just contract) because they’ve been hit financially by the pandemic, so how on earth could they now afford £40+m and a contract for Sanchez?
