Spurs loanee set for a return to his parent club after poor form

By Bruce Grove -

A report in Portugal is claiming that Tottenham loanee, Gedson Fernandes is set to make a return to his parent club, Benfica in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese midfielder was signed by Spurs on loan from Benfica in the January transfer window as one of the first players to join the club under Jose Mourinho.

He was expected to make the club better, but his loan stint has been a disappointment so far.

The midfielder has not been able to usurp the midfielders he was signed to play ahead of and as the club delved into the transfer window this summer, it was clear that Mourinho didn’t trust him.

Portuguese media outlet, Record is now reporting that the midfielder will likely be sent back to his parent club, Benfica in the next transfer window.

If that happens, he will return with six months left on the deal signed between both clubs.

It is surprising to see Fernandes struggle considering that several teams wanted to sign him at the time that Mourinho’s influence helped Spurs to land him.

Fernandes will go down as one player who never really took his chance to make it in a big league, a return to familiar territory might help him return to form.

Thank goodness we only loaned him, finally learning from our mistakes it seems. No more silly punts please. Quality that the manager asks for only, stop playing football manager Mr Levy.

Saw some technique but a bit of a headless chicken routine. Looked decent at right wing back… er… against Ipswich…

Never got a run in the side, looks decent enough but not good enough to improve this team. Seeing as a permanent deal might require a fee of 30 odd million if he’s not getting chances what’s the point in pursuing it?

Surprised he didn’t go back in the window. He’s got family in London apparently so he might not have been in a rush to go back, who knows. Not good enough, next please…

He may not’ve shown that much on the pitch but he did change up the vibz a bit on the training pitches. I’m told he was well liked. He got our relationship moving with benfica too. José🌚

Was maybe just to soon for him. I’m sure he’ll go on to have a good career. Them telescopic legs with his skill set will see him through. He learned to play right back within 100 days. Imagine what he could do in a few thousand

We got the wrong one, simples. That guy that takes the penalties would have been better.

Nice to see Bayern back into the groove blowing Athletico Madrid away!
Only surprise is that Lewandowski has not yet scored his customary goal!
