Spurs linked with deadline day move for Manchester City flop

By Bruce Grove -

Spurs have been linked with a deadline day move for Manchester City defender, John Stones as they struggle to land a new centre back reports The Athletic.

Spurs have strengthened their team in this transfer window with some of the best deals they can get but they are yet to replace Jan Vertonghen.

Their first choice centre-back signing is Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan, but they are struggling to agree on a fee with the Italians for the former Sampdoria man.

Spurs want to pay £30m, but Inter wants £45m and it now seems that the deal may not be completed.

The Lilywhites have now turned their eyes to other alternatives. And the report claims that a switch for Stones is on the cards.

Spurs had wanted to sign Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and the German defender wanted the move, but the Blues prefer to sell him to a team outside of England and he looks set to join AC Milan.

Stones might be available after Manchester City splashed the cash on signing Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias in this transfer window.

The Englishman will, however, likely cost more or as much as Skriniar having signed from Everton for more than £45m in 2016.

This is an interesting prospect. Pep hasn’t a clue how to coach defenders, but Jose could get Stones back to the £50m player he was at Everton.

Like the look of this deal have to say, guess he counts as homegrown too?

He needs a career reboot so much, used to be a player in there

Better than Rudiger and also home grown. Good footballer but lost his confidence at City. Neither are as good as Skriniar though, come on Levy push the boat out for Mou and he will reward you, now’s the time for courage not timidity.

Stones is better than Rudiger in my view.
