Spurs in pole position to make a statement of intent with first Conte signing

By Mark Brus -

Tottenham are reportedly ahead of Juventus in the transfer race for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbia international has been on fire in Serie A in recent times, scoring 31 goals in his last 53 games in all competitions for his club, showing that he could be a valuable asset for many top clubs around Europe.

According to Sport Mediaset, Antonio Conte is eager to land him as one of his first signings as Spurs manager, and it seems Tottenham are ahead of Juventus in the running for the time being.

If Spurs pull this off, it would be some statement, with Vlahovic looking ideal for the kind of football Conte is going to be playing. And we know from past experience what Conte is capable of if he’s given the right tools to work with.

Harry Kane’s dip in form also surely means that another top signing up front is essential, while Sport Mediaset also note that the England international’s future could be in doubt again once the transfer window re-opens in January.

Vlahovic is the first of a few signings that Levy has to make to turn this team into real contenders. He has the manager to do it, he now has to back Conte, there’s absolutely no point in signing Conte as manager and not backing him. The next two transfer windows are massive, Vlahovic in January is a must, we can’t go any longer with Harry Kane as our only recognised striker, If Vlahovic does sign and Harry leaves then we’ll need a second striker for sure. Another centre back preferably a left footed centre back, we haven’t had one since Jan left, that is ridiculous. A number 10 that can play just behind the strikers who has that killer pass we’ve missed since Eriksen left, we haven’t replaced him either. Personally I’d like to see a world class keeper sign too, Lloris has his day but is a liability at times too and Gollini isn’t good enough to take over. And if I was being really greedy a flying right wing back and a right winger. That should just about do it, all we need to do now is to convince Levy to back Conte to that degree. Easier said than done. Although it’s probably Levy’s last chance to save himself from the fans and to get himself back on side.

Is he any good though? We keep hearing that he’s great but he’s never played in the PL
