Spurs ‘have been told’ they will need to pay over £50m to sign key target

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham centre-back target Piero Hincapie, has agreed to a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen, according to the German club.

The 21-year-old Ecuadorian defender has signed a deal that extends until 2027, solidifying his future with the club.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Argentinian club Talleres, Hincapie has impressed with his performance and was the subject of transfer rumors heavily linking him to Tottenham in the recent January transfer window.

However, according to ESPN, despite signing a new contract, Hincapie still has aspirations of playing for a top Premier League club.

The report states that Leverkusen are expected to face interest from Newcastle, Everton, and Tottenham in the summer transfer window, and the clubs ‘have been told’ that it will take a fee of over £50million to sign the defender.

Tottenham, who play a 3-man defense under manager Italian manager Antonio Conte, will likely be linked with several left-sided central defenders before the summer transfer window.

Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet will not be signed permanently and will return to Barcelona when his loan spell with the North London club expires.

They have already been linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar, and Piero Hincapie.

He has already earned 24 senior caps for the Ecuadorian national team and was a key player during the Qatar World Cup, starting in all three of his country’s group games.

This season so far he has made 23 appearances for the German club in all competitions and has scored one goal.
