Spain U21 boss explains why Spurs loanee Bryan Gil is thriving at Valencia

By Eddie Razo -

When Tottenham Hotspur landed the Bryan Gil this past summer, they were hoping to see the young player flourish in north London. However, the Spanish international struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and after six months, Gil has departed Spurs.

The winger is on loan for the remainder of the season with Valencia, where he’s showing his capabilities, playing a part in the Spanish club reaching the Copa del Rey final.

Spain U21 boss Luis De la Fuente has declared that Gil is blossoming at Valencia because of the trust shown in him by manager Jose Bordalas. Furthermore, De la Fuente is convinced that the Spanish winger will return to his best form now that he’s with The Bats and under the sharp eye of Bordalas.

“I have always demanded opportunities for these players, confidence and continuity,” De la Fuente told Super Deporte. “Now he (Gil) has found it in Valencia. If you trust them, they never fail. They are top players. He has the opportunity. They trust him, and he has spectacular mental strength. He hasn’t reached his ceiling yet.”

When Tottenham loaned out Gil, they didn’t attach any option or obligation clause to the agreement because they still view the winger as a part of their future. However, if manager Antonio Conte doesn’t see him fit for his squad, Spurs will need to sell.

Different leagues and standards mate. Sancho and Bellingham (both good players) but that German league isn’t half as tough as the Prem. Bellingham is still at Dortmund. Sancho is at manure so has struggled. With Ronaldo and whoever else to fight for his place this is hardly surprising… Southgate is a hopeless manager…Ringo Gil Star is thriving but in La Liga, which is far less physically demanding compared to our league. He did struggle for us, was pushed off the ball easily. Hopefully he’ll fill out a bit over the next year or two. Weights, good diet and plenty of football minutes and he’ll only get better.

The ‘boy’ wasn’t ready to move either physically or mentally to another country, whether he ever will be is anyone’s guess, but questions of suitability and character don’t seem to be part of the strategy when signing players at this club, which is unbelievable.

All about trust. Sancho and Bellingham top ten players in Germany – trusted by the senior players around them. Back to ENGLAND and they are treated like Under 16s by Southgate and then the MU managers and barely get a kick. Gil in Olympics was a trusted member of the team and nearly won the Gold medal with a moment of brilliance. Back in Valencia and he was picked from his first moment and barely missed a minute since – including against Real Madrid, Barca et al.
