Some worrying statistics for Tottenham ahead of Man Utd clash

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will take on Manchester United Friday evening in their first game back since the suspension of the Premier League.

The Lilywhites will look to win that game against one of their European place opponents as they seek a return to Champions League football at the end of this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side has been boosted by the return of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Moussa Sissoko from injury (Official club website) ahead of this game.

These players will give Mourinho the chance to field one of his strongest teams even though he will be without Dele Alli due to a one-match ban (BBC).

Spurs have struggled for much of this new year and that is understandable because they have been without Kane for such a long time.

Now that the Englishman is back, fans will hope that their results will contain more wins, but there are some stats that may worry fans ahead of the match.

This season, Spurs have had 12.1 shots on average per league game, that is their lowest in a season since the 1997/1998 season.

The Lilywhites have also kept just four clean sheets in the Premier League this season, which is the fewest among the teams in the competition.

Another worrying stat is that Tottenham haven’t won a competitive game in June and last season’s Champions League final added to that list, but Manchester United has also not won a competitive game in the month as well.

Manchester United have won their last two Premier League games against Spurs and the last time they won three in a row against us was in 2010.

Additionally, Jose Mourinho has lost his last three games against his former teams.

Now, statistics are just that, statistics but the omens are not good and one has to hope that Mourinho will break his current poor run against his former clubs and that he can inspire the Tottenham defence to do far better than what the statistics are showing.
