Sky Sports pundit has a glowing review of Harry Winks’ performance versus Liverpool

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur returned to the pitch after having multiple matches postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, the first fixture came against Liverpool, not the easiest game for the north London club.

Nonetheless, Spurs held their own for a 2-2 draw against one of the better clubs in the Premier League. Furthermore, Jamie Redknapp spoke on Sky Sports (via Daily Mail), where he spoke about the performance of Harry Winks and how it can be a stepping stone to reviving his career.

“There are certain times in a game that a tackle sets the tempo,’ Redknapp said. ‘The way that Harry Winks goes and wins it, this is exactly what you need. It gets the crowd up; all of a sudden, there is a bit of pace to it, a bit of energy.”

“If Harry Winks does not make that tackle, you get countered. His passing, the way he intercepted the ball. He has not always been a favorite under Nuno or Jose, but I thought he was the main man in there; he did a great job in so many different aspects.”

Winks played all 90 minutes going 50 for 63 on his passes, providing one key pass, completing eight of 14 long balls, and going four for seven on the ground duels. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Winks blocked three shots and intercepted four passes.

“Harry Winks is working very hard,” Redknapp said. “He impressed me in training sessions with his commitment, his will, his desire. I think he is a really good player.”

One game is a small sample size to determine if a player is back. Still, perhaps it’s a positive sign for someone expressing interest in the 25-year-old as Tottenham is reportedly open to letting him depart during the January window.

I was he couldn’t defend for toffee..his best games for England were with Walker behind him ..can cross a ball though.

Over the course of the game, I thought he gave more cause for hope than Dele or NDombele for that matter. I was surprised at the amount of praise that came Dele’s way after the game. Although I’m not convinced by Winks, it was noticeable that he showed more aggression in his passing and there seemed to be a bit more dynamism to his game. Bearing in mind the number of overseas players we’re being linked with and the need for a home grown contingent, if Conte can have him maintain that sort of progress, he may be worth holding onto. Between Wink and Dele, I’m more inclined to believe Winks will progress.

That’s how desperate some of us Spurs fans are, a really good performance from Winks and a decent one from Dele and its like the Second Coming.

We’re spoilt rotten us Spurs fans.

I must admit when I saw the team sheet with Winks, Sanchez & Alli starting I expected a 5-1 loss… but actually one of the weakest links imho was Royal…his positioning wasnt great & he still cant cross a ball… maybe Alli & Winks performances were influenced by the upcoming transfer window. We already look fitter as a team altho no games in 2 weeks might be responsible for that 😏
