Sky Sports admits Tottenham Hotspur are ‘looking at’ signing Bundesliga star in January

By Mehdi Gokal -

Sky Sports man Dharmesh Sheth has mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Piero Hincapie as Antonio Conte seeks to strengthen their defense.

It’s possible that Tottenham may not need to prioritize signing new attacking players as much, given that they recently scored four goals in a Premier League match.

This may indicate that their attacking prowess is sufficient and that they should focus on other areas. And given that Tottenham have conceded 25 goals this season, which is the highest among teams currently in the top six, it’s likely that Antonio Conte will prioritize adding one or two new defenders in the winter transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are ‘looking at’ signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, but Napoli are also interested in acquiring his services.

Sheth wrote on his transfer blog:

“A player Tottenham are looking at is Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie, who is an Ecuador international, but Napoli are also keen on the 20-year-old.”

However, it is unclear if Antonio Conte views Hincapie as a top priority in terms of center backs, as he may prefer to sign a more established and immediately impactful player such as Alessandro Bastoni.

And Tottenham may have learned that they cannot force a player on Antonio Conte that he is not interested in using, based on the limited playing time given to Djed Spence.

Conte had publicly revealed that he not approved of the signing of Spence and has only played him for seven minutes in the league. This suggests that the club will have to consider Conte’s preferences and priorities when signing new players in the future.
