Sidelined man open to leaving Spurs in January, not Alli or Rose

By Bruce Grove -

The Athletic says that Davinson Sanchez is considering leaving Tottenham next month after he lost his place in the team.

The Colombian has become the latest victim of Jose Mourinho’s desire to have only players that will be at their best all the time.

He was the first choice centre-back partner of Eric Dier at the start of the season, but he eventually lost his place because of some sloppy displays.

He is now even below Joe Rodon in the pecking order at Spurs, and understandably unhappy.

Next month presents him with another chance to leave the club and the report says he has now made himself open to leaving.

Spurs will hardly want to sell him in January, but the report says he wants to play regularly, and he is currently on the lookout for a better opportunity. If one arises, he will ask to leave.

Spurs will, however, want a replacement before they can sanction his move away from north London with the team looking to challenge for trophies this season.

When Spurs signed Sanchez in 2017, they expected him to develop into one of the finest defenders in Europe, but he hasn’t reached the heights they thought he would, and he might be sold off at the end of this season.

On this one I would call The King into my office and ask him plainly “can this player be taught how to defend a corner/free kick and track a run in the box”.
Yes – work on him alone for 4 weeks solid
No – call a meeting with Levy and present the facts as shown by the coaching team.

From vague memory The King knew a thing about defending.

He ain’t that bad. Confidence is low at the moment obviously. He’s very athletic and does well for his country

He seems to have problems at times tracking balls in the air. Not good for a centre back.

What happened to coaching players, helping them improve, cutting out the same mistakes. If Aurier can pull himself together so can Davinson. Agree with the sentiment he won’t be going cheap.

He was the weak link in that Ajax team to the point that Jose specifically targeted him when United beat them in the Europa final.

Imo, Rudiger is a much better CB than Sanchez and can play in a 3, or even fill in at RB. Good business to be done there if they could convince him.

He is technically awful and loses concentration. A bad combo.
