The situation with Harry Kane is one that I’ve made my views on very clear.
Of course, it’s easy to get swept along on in all the speculation.
After all the German public relations machine has been functioning, well, like a well-oiled, German-engineered machine.
In respect of all the noise, it’s worth taking a step back and contemplating reality – that’s not too fashionable these days, but let some facts into your life, and who knows, you might like it.
Kane has dedicated himself, to pursuing various goalscoring records, which as a striker makes sense, but also, as a striker at Spurs, may be something that’s happened out of necessity, rather than design.
It’s taken the England captain a long time to come within spitting distance of Alan Shearer’s record, but it’s a Premier League-specific achievement. To move to any other division would immediately be ‘start again time’ and the attacker’s magnificent goal tally would be immediately paused.
What would the Bundesliga actually offer Kane, the chance to win a title? European football?
All I see is homework. Moving country, learning a new language, and to what end, to prevent Spurs fans from booing him for wearing a Chelsea or a Manchester United shirt? It simply makes no sense whatsoever.
What does make sense, with only a year to run, on his Tottenham deal, is for his brother Charlie to create as much demand for his client as possible.
Teddy Sheringham talking to our sister publication TBH Substack, believes Harry’s best bet is to stay at Spurs. Teddy said:
It’s difficult to make a case for Harry embarking on so many significant changes, given his age.
As far as dealing with Tottenham, what’s the rush to get a deal done this summer?
Does that benefit him personally, possibly not.
Sheringham is a wise owl when it comes to this side of the business, and the idea of going ‘all in’ with a coach having his first Premier League season, just seems rather naive.
