Serge Aurier comments on the termination of his contract with Tottenham

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur used the last day of the summer transfer window to secure the deal for FC Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal. The move meant that Serge Aurier was an expendable asset, and while rumors were surrounding the 28-year-old, no deal came to fruition.

With only hours until the window closed and no takes for the right-back, Tottenham announced that they had agreed to terminate the last year on his contract and part ways with Aurier.

Before departing onto the next venture in his career, Aurier thanked the club and its supporters for the four years he spent with the Premier League side.

“I have really enjoyed my time at Spurs and would like to thank the Club and the fans, but I feel now is the right time for me to move onto a new challenge,” Aurier said.

Aurier arrived at the north London-based club from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for around £23million. During his time with Tottenham, Aurier made more than 100 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring eight goals and registering 17 assists.

Despite this production, Aurier battled to nail down a regular spot as the club’s first-choice right-back, which is why they went after Emerson.

Absolutely and another example of our shocking recent transfer dealings. How is Steve Hitchin in a job?

Mutually agreeing to terminate his contract does not mean he gets paid off. (A unilateral decision by THFC would’ve).
Seeing as nobody wished to bid for him, THFC were in a ‘no lose’ situation as he would’ve gone for next to nothing in January or free next summer, so he’s a free agent now & THFC remove him from the wage bill.

Why are people complaining? They’ve been wanting him out for the past few years now. We let him go for free now or pay him £70k a week to sit in the reserves before he goes for nothing at the end of the season. Sounds like a fair deal for everyone to me. Wish him all the best for the future.

Terminate his contract = paid him off.
We have money to burn.
Plus that leaves Ndombele without either of his 2 French mates.
He will now either get a grip or go further into his shell. 50/50 or maybe not that good.
